first..lets remember..he wasn't just plucked from the street ..he applied and has just as much right to be there as anyone else.
Secondly..the programme is designed as entertainment...so its no good puting in 14 geeks that are shy and don't talk much. the whole idea of the selection process..is to find interesting peiople and see how they will mix. the fact he is blind does make it interesting....to see how others react and how he reacts to them.
I actually think he will last right to the end...and has a good chance of winning...

I think the whole thing is crap and stinks of public manipulation/titillation and sensationalism crapism awfulism bolloxism nastyTVism Cheapism wankerism stagnationTV. Oh ism ism ism ism ism.
I would much prefer blind people or deaf or whatever bloody disability they have to be shown on other less shit programmes. Mainstream T.V is necessary for public awareness granted but BB = Bloody bollox.
I did check on the RNIB site to see their reaction which is sort of favourable towards Michael. There isn't really much to read on that from them really, just a 'pat' answer. though the link is here if anyone wants to see:-

or perhaps because they think his stand-up experience will add comedy value?

.... or will the fact he is blind add comedy value? lol   wink
I was just thinking back, were people not having this conversations when the kid with tourettes was in the house??? to me I don't see a diference...
Some people seem to be forgetting that regardless or whether someone is blind, or has tourettes, or has a million and one different pediments, that they are in the end ADULTS who are capable of making their own decisions. So if people want to apply for programmes like this, then good for them! each to there own!
maybe it says more about the people who are awkward watching this as opposed to the people participating.... just a thought
When I first read this, earlier this morning, I had to go away and think about it while I got ready to go and be a carer for a blind friend.
I have now had time to think about it, and have read all the other responses. I have also discussed it with my blind friend. It's difficult to put into words what has been on my mind.
I can understand why channel 4 put him into the house, and it is true that he has a varied personality, but I don't think that he should be judged on his "disability" just because he is blind doesn't mean to say that he can't lead a normal life.. he just needs a little help sometimes thats all. My blind friend has a much better social life than me and they're 71! Nothing holds them back, or the other blind people I know too. Granted, it can make life difficult for the people around them, but I love going to see my blind friend... I don't mind doing things for them.
There is so much discrimination these days, in one form or another, I have fibromyalgia (google it if you want to know what it is or pm me) and because I don't look ill, I get judged because I can't always do things that other people can when I want to. My blind friend accepts me for who I am.. not what I am.. she understands when I can't walk a long way, or fall asleep in the middle of a conversation in the middle of the day... Quite a few times people have said to me - "why cant you do that.. you dont look like theres anything wrong with you" mad
I wish this chap well, and if he gets through I think it will be on his own merits...
If anyone who reads this is a carer, or knows a blind person, I would love to hear from you.
Please don't judge someone till you get to know them.. especially someone you see on television...
Thanks for reading this long!!!
Just read what I wrote, and just remembered another thing my friend told me, and I have actually experienced when I have been with them, and others.. The sentence that makes us all hopping mad is
"does she take sugar??"
Or things of that ilk... :fuckinghell: it's amazing the swear words that can come out of genteel elderly ladies...
The last time it happened my friend went ballistic.. I bet you can guess why... just because you can't see doesn't mean you can't do other things, or that you're daft..
Sorry im ranting again!!!! it's just a subject close to my heart...
Sorry again!!!! smackbottom you can smack my bottom now...

he has been blind since the age of 22

at 22 that must be difficult to adjust, but his turned out to be a stand up comedian how inspiration!

He has an unfair advantage
some of the people will find it harder to nominate a person that is blind.

Not nessessarily...if he acts like a 1st class prick,i would have no hesitation in voting him off, blind or not...

I would do the same
I did say "some" people though wink
I have to admit i love michael.
His bathroom bunnygirl scene was soooo funny.
His blindness is caused by him having a rare genetic syndrome and i was kind of hoping that it would maybe raise some awareness of it.
I suffer from the same thing myself so maybe im just bias. lol
But i love watching him because i find he cracks me up and im not swayed by the fact that he is blind.
xxx
I like him to... Hes got a lovely personality and is up for a good laff.
BUT... like i posted on the other BB thread.. I thought this house was ZERO tolerance?? On the opening night, they made such a big thing of the "Zero Tolerance" yet you have some nasty girl with a disgusting mouth getting away with it only 3 days in.
The things she said about mikey are disgusting and uncalled for and she should be ashamed!!
And its really mad me!!

And its really me!!

how are you managing to post from inside the house?
do you get extra 'diary room' time, with the cameras off?
a secret 'hot-spot' in the garden?
(Oh no, that's probably something else altogether!!)

without being over sensitive, whats your opinion about having a blind housemate in BB....

Not really sure about this one. Part of me feels that he somehow has a bit of an advantage over the other housemates, but another part thinks he has every right to be there.
Being blind is probably the worst sense you can only know how people cope with no sight. He seems to be a good character in the house, a lot better than some of the knobs in there.
If he was to win I hope it is because of his personality, rather than his disability though. lol
who is watching this programme who is mikey doing so far

Dont have one ..as i dont watch the programme,as it is crap
well..i think it is wonderful..it is great watching real life charachters evole and see how they inter-act with each other. Some people like to watch soaps..which is same except made up...some people life watching golf...no I could say that is just watching a man hit a ball with a stick...now that sounds boring. Each to their own.
Now then...Mikey is doing fine. he has intergrated into the house well, all the others help him along. Indeed this year is one of the most interesting series yet. there are many differant and diverse charachters, without any being stupidly over the top.
Do think Mikey may well last to last week, but no sure if he is actualy entertaining enough to win.
I haven't seen him

I caught ten min's tonight, Mikey was washing his willy in a beaker in the bathroom or something! confused :?

Oh bugger it its for titillation value next time it could be a dwarf or a deaf person, wheelchair user, dumb, foreign non-English speaking, black, white, ye;;ow obese. Limbs missing, old etc etc etc c'mon its a freak show full stop irrespective of who is there, it doesn't represent a fair cross section of society just a bunch of people purpose picked for the job.
This could never hold anything of value from a scientific nature surely.

Thanks for that Lost. I never realised that being obese made me a freak, but I will now go join the circus mad
I really dont see why i upset you i listed all types of people that came to mind. Im sorry if i did though  it doesn't it makes you the same as the rest of us no less or more of a person
coming 2nd overall I guess being blind didn't do him any harm whatsoever and although he isn't someone I can imagine being friends with, give him his due, he never played the blind card.
Not quite sure how Rachel won though
