Are any of you booze snobs....as in you only buy/drink the most expensive brands of the tipple you like? or would you sup any brand as long as it save you pennies? For instance was on a pub crawl a few months ago and the 'pub' (term used VERY loosely) had no Southern Comfort....so the barman substituted it for Morgans spiced, telling us it was just the same, but cheaper. Mate tastes it and deemed it to be like something 'you would clean stains from a toilet with' (sorry Witchy!!) Now ive had cheap vino from a screw topped bottle, that is rather nice and am more than happy with smart price vodka and have even partaken of 99p sparkling perry when cash is short have a mate who says Hennessey Brandy is like an angel cumming on your tongue....whilst OH proclaims it to be reminiscent of Jeyes fluid and reckons he could clean the oil off the driveway with it! Im more of a save me money type of gal....a cheap date if ya like are there any of yas that are like me? or are there more refined palates out there that wouldnt sup anythingout of a sweaty pit boot?

Either,neither,both :confused: I mainly drink booze based around the lager group of drinkies. I do like the relatively expensive Italian Peroni, goes down well with a nice pizza :lickface: I also rather like some of the cheaply price Polish plonk such as Tyskie and i'm currently drinking a supermarkets own brand bierre/alsace which is very tasty for the price. I do try and avoid Carling though as its the beer equivalent of canal water :scared:

That's mainly because the gin and vodka get mixed with tonic and the whisky stays neat The tonic is only Schweppes because I get it in 500ml bottles (doesn't go flat so quickly) from the cash and carry. If I can't get there, it's supermarket own brand (diet of course - no need for unnecessary calories ) I'm a bit of a heathen with wine, unless it's Rioja (which must at least have a real cage around it), and buy not-quite-the-cheapest. Although I am rather partial to a Chateauneuf du Pape when we're celebrating. Champagne is wasted on me - anything fizzy and 'brut' is good enough. Mr Stuff likes lager, and his personal preference is Stella, but he'll drink most things if there's no other choice (including sherry :shock: ). I think his opinion on Carling is much the same as Meaty's. Blimey, reading back, I sound like a right lush! I'm not, honest! Still practising
Only branded names for me everytime. Goes for food aswell,however,there is a cider from Aldi's (you'd never catch me in there) (snob) called "Taurus" Someone bought me some last week and it was rather jolly pleasant!
My drinking criteria is inversely proportional to the amount of drinking involved. That said, I will never ever ever touch Carling. It's like dishwater but without the bits.

^This^. I'm not a whisky snob by any stretch, but trying to detect the differences between an Islay, a Speyside, a Highland and a Lowland single malt are all part of the pleasure of it. Not much pleasure to be had from a cheap scotch at all, beyond the obvious one of getting royally pissed all the same on it. ;) The only mixer that ever goes into my scotch is an occasional splash of water, but gin, vodka, almost everything else all taste pretty much the same to me by the time I've poured a load of coke all over 'em. As for the southern comforts and JDs of this world? :barfs: As for beers, I suppose I am a bit of a snob about 'em TBH, and I no longer drink lager at all. Me and Stella decided we weren't getting on and a parting of the ways was probably for the best a very long time ago. It's cask or bottle conditioned real ale from small independent breweries all the way these days. That's me doing me bit for small business and traditional craft and what have you, and the fact they taste bloody lovely and come in strengths all the way up to 7 'n' half percent is an added bonus. :lickface: Neil x x x ;)

In the pub...bitter price is irrelevant At home...Spirits..depends what they're being used for Vodka unless drunk neat the cheaper the better Gin with tonic should be aromatic so I use a more expensive one (although I've found Larios to be both cheap and nice)my own favourite is Tanqueray . Brandy as a general rule is better the more you spend on it and is awful mixed. Whisky again gets better the more you spend and is spoiled by scotch Whiskeys again depend on their use (Southern Comfort is an abomination and an insult to the art of brewing). I do like to make a cocktail or two every now and then and find the best results come from using good quality products. As for wine there's good cheap ones and bad expensive ones so it all comes down to finding what you like. I very rarely drink beer of any sort at home as I firmly believe beer should be served from a pump in company and by a buxom barmaid (I'm just an old fashioned kind of guy deep down)
we generally buy tesco own lager, not the value stuff tho occasionally mite buy bud or similar :) usually pay bout £4 to £5 for wine, often buying ones that are on offer at that price :) didnt know u cud get a "cheap" southern comfort and not sure id buy it cus id hate to waste money on summat that tasted awful so thats probably one of the few things id buy a named brand :)
I'v tried various non-branded stuff and it's generally drinkable but not as nice as the original. With wine, I tend to avoid anything own-brand but go for the 3 for £10 at Asda. I can't justify spending more than £5 on a bottle of wine - wither by cost or taste. Since £5 tastes great (depending on which you chose and what you drink it with) £10 simply can't taste twice as good.

The stuff I like, I can tell instantly if it's the real deal (Southern Comfort, a good Single Malt Scotch that gives you hair on your chest and an urge to say "oooh mammy!" when you drink it) over the cheapo alternative, but for stuff I don't drink much of (pretty much everything else) It could be Aldi's rat blasting, drain cleaning grog or a vastly expensive brand and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Apart from Hoegaarden beer which is the result of a combination of the devils anal dousings with added rancid bat urine. Only worse.
on a slightly more serious note ............... It does depend on the mood and / or occasion. Usual rule of thumb is: Lager ............. NO umummm absolutely not, chemical poison as far as I’m concerned and tastes like it too. (It's not called wifebeater for nothing) Beer ............. not the IPA's, all seem like making love on a raft to me. Real ALE ................ Like Neil, I love em, not all, but some, to me a proper ALE has to be dark, thick, strong and possess no tannins whatsoever, the sweeter the better. mmmmm gimme 'dunkelbeer' :lol2: Wine................ unfortunately I like red wine, I say unfortunately because i like sweet wines, finding a sweet red that’s affordable to the extent of 3 or 4 bottles a night has so far proven fruitless :sad: Whiskey.............. I used to drink blended whiskeys, but we fell out, big style, don't get me wrong, i love em, they just don't like me. Vodka ............. the cheaper the better, i find the expensive stuff sends me for a loop, i do crazy shit and remember nowt about it in the morning :scared: where as the cheapo battery acid / antifreeze stuff just gets me pleasantly pished ok, so its usually the cheapo vodka I stick to when I'm socialising party wise, on the other hand, if I'm sat in front of a blazing log fire having a philosophical discussion with a good mate, then I prefer a bottle of Glenmorangie. if it's one of those rare Sunday afternoons where you’ve just had a sparking Sunday roast accompanied by your favourite wine, you are privileged by good company, then there really is nothing nicer than to retire with a bottle (or two) of good vintage Port, Again, being of the 'savoury food and sweet drink' persuasion, I couldn’t be doing with a Tawny, would have to be a Ruby. So, does the above make me a drink snob? I'm not sure, you decide Make my food savoury, my drink sweet and my women hot :lol2:
