Double the speed of your broadband connection for the same price per month, or four quid less if you have a 1 meg speed connection.
Great.
So what is the down side I hear you ask?
Your monthly usage limit of 30meg will be cut by half to 15meg.
So now you can get half much twice as fast.
BT Broadband was down for most of the weekend for me and their attitude stank - I'll be going wireless and switching providers when I move my house around in the next few weeks...
I've had BT broadband for 4 years and at the higher speed and never really have any problems with them at all.

Have some pity for some of us who are still waiting for broadband to come to our area....bet you wouldn't go back to dial up!
I think they just dont like you... lol
We got the same email, except they clearly stated that the 30gb / month was remaining.

BT is full of cons. I prefer and better. Benefit of Virgin vs aol and other suppliers is that they do not impose a minimum 12 month contract. Been moving houses and had my broadband follow me (actually wait there for me to arrive) - no problems at all. If I ever left my provider, I'd go for aol as their customer service is amazing.

blink
or even this one!
fourth post down. In fairness the inability to dial out is a problem the fuckwits at BT can`t fix, but I knew what I was doing more than customer services at AOL did.

Yep......that's ntl for you.......can't be arsed to change to BT......would have to give up cable and get a bloody dish with sky....and don't want one of them on the house!

I had the same problem with NTL.
They said that broadband would be in my area within 3 months, 6 months later they said there will be no adsl.
So when my contract finished I switched to sky.
Sky imho is far far better than ntl anyday, many more channels (more hours spent surfing and not finding anything to watch).
I also went with BT but only for a phone line my adsl is with a different provider.
If I were you mate I would consider very strongly about the change to sky and bt
The best deal I've found so far is:
1MB for
2MB for
No bandwidth limits (BT eat your heart out!!! biggrin )
1 month minimum contract (though if you cancel during the first year you have to pay BT's 50 quid connection charge).
The next best deal I've found is:
512KB for before you say I've lost it... No Contention - that means it doesn't slow down as more people start using their broadband), 1 month minimum contract, up to 8 static IPs for free, the best Technical Support on an 0870 number (no premium rate support calls) I have ever come across and the usual - if you cancel during the first year you have to pay BT's 50 quid connection charge.
A word to the wise.
If you are using AOL for business you are losing business as AOL blocks virtually all emails which contain the words:AccountRegisterRegistrationFreeOfferSpecialthe usual expletivesUnless you put the word "RE:" as the first word on the subject line.

Ntl.......said broadband would be availble this year........if it doesn't happen trust me i will be looking out for the offers with BT AND SKY!

erm . . . this the same AOL? Assholes on Line? try and get any info about why they just took four debits from you this month, or try and get any kinda tech support whatsoever, or try making a complaint on their message board, and i think you might reevaluate that idea pretty damn sharpish? ;)
n x x x :P
Dont do any of that , use their live help section . Or write to them . They get the most complaints because they have the most members . They have the most members because they (overall) give the best service . Far from perfect , but still best for the non-professional user . IMHO
cant wait to get broadband. live in sleepy hollow sad

I'm afraid that in my opinion, the best deal around does not even take price into account.
We have been on BT Broadband for around 4 years. In that time we have had by memory one outage that lasted around 2 hours, and another that lasted 30 minutes.
Having been on the internet at home for over 15 years, I've been there and done that as far as changing providers for lower priced deals, more web space, more email addresses etc etc.
My number one concern for my internet connection is exactly that! I want to be connected to the internet with a reliable connection, free from drop outs, and at a speed that I feel is acceptable.
The fact that I can shave a pound or two off the monthly fee is (again in my opinion) of little consequence when you are screaming at your router to connect. I was once with compuserve many years ago, and the only way to cancel your agreement was online. The reason I wanted to leave them was because I couldnt get on line. It took three days and nights of constant dialing up with the 14k modem just to kick them in to touch.

yeah I use the Live Help, but IMHO they are the least well informed Help Desk i've ever had the misfortune to use. as someone who used to work on Help Desks, well i'd have resigned from that one feeling completely incompetent given my experience of 'em.
sadly the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing all too often, no doubt cos they ARE so big, and the US arm doesn't think to tell the UK section when they're gonna ram "ALL NEW Shniy Access Numbers" down my throat every single time i log on with any screen name for over a week, just to give me the numbers i'm already using? or try and override the preferences i've gone outta my way to setup, just so they can try and force me to do it *their* way  and i really don't expect adware from someone i'm paying for the privelege. adware is a way of paying for *free* sites, not my ISP. and no i don't really want to have you ram RealPlayer down my throat at every available opportunity, cos i have in fact already got it ta very much! i just choose not to use it! oh i could go on, but you're already bored, so i won't ;) ;) ;) ! etc etc etc
the softwares crap. the browser is a dog, they keep changing SMTP / IMAP settings to try and force you to use their client, they don't show webpages as they should be, but how they want them to look, they do dumb stuff with caches rto throw you off the scent . . . sorry im ranting now eh? ;)

Reliability is a done deal. I won't contemplate any ISP who cannot offer exceptional reliability.
For both of the recommendations I can honestly say that the only times they have failed was when some twat digging up the road cut the main fibre optic line between us and Carlisle and when BT had a "card failure" in Manchester last Saturday. Both were beyond the control of the ISP.
Being in the "sticks" redundancy would be nice and the twat that cut the main fibre optic cable was actually laying a second cable to offer the redundancy!! BTW the same twat has also cut the Electricty and water a couple of times. We are praying that he'll cut the gas pipe  then we might get someone who can do the job.
My BT has only suffered one prolonged down time and I got two months free for it. But it's not as if there are many options where I live. Even though cable is laid in the street no cables and/or dishes are allowed on the outside of the houses here cos al 15 houses are listed and the cable company can't be arsed to spend more than the allotted half an hour putting the cables up the inside instead.
And I need to keep my private email address - though one of my colleagues changed to OneTel for broadband and telephone services but kept BT as a dial-up option and so kept his email address too.
Inertia!
Can't believe some of you are still on dial-up. You know my ickle wickle village? Well, what ya do is you get everyone to sign the online petition for Broadband For Xxxxx and as soon as you reach your trigger level of people, for BT to change the exchange, they have to do it.
Mind you, if you're waiting for NTL to run cable, then fair do's. I used to use them, when I lived in the 21st century (and 20th, for that matter), but there is no mains sewerage here... so I guess I'll not be seeing cable for a fair few.
Sorry to hear people have had problems with AOL. My experience has been impeccable and I love the fact their helpline is free of charge compared with BT's 50p a minute for some idiot to tell you things you know, then pass you on to some other idiot who will go through all these things again and... you get the idea. No call to BT was ever any less than half an hour, therefore the cost was £15 a call! And they never ring you back.
Of course as I said I am with Virgin and due to financial constraints I had to downgrade from unlimited to limited broadband but I have not reached my limit or had any service problems but I have saved £7 a month by switching packages.

Three letters :-)

FFS? lol
B.T cut me off because they had me down as " moving house " .I wasnt moving house and dont know where they got that info from . It took me 6 days to get put back on , i spent a total of 5 hours over 6 days on the phone to them . When i got back on line they then sent me a bill for £83  ,,,BASTARDS !!!!!!!!!

Another instant of a o hell, is that they do not support macs.
We have a few clients who are with a o hell, we find that trying to speak with them is a complete nightmare.
They have told us that they only have one person who is mac literate.
He apparently is only in on a thursday.
The help desk at a o hell, is utter crap.
This is my opinion, and is backed up by trial and error by a o hell(mostly error).
Just realised, in this context the word is
Sorry, I'll get out of pedants corner now!
Hay Marms I sleightley Fuked up, what the hell.
Smak me.
Ooops C's are fecked again.
Sorry. redface
