I ventured out last night in the stormy weather. Why? Tickets to see Ray Mears, the bushcraft man. I have a sort of love/hate thing with his TV progs. I love what he does and the stuff he shows but I think he's a bit pompous and self satisified.
His lecture was a selection of photos from his 10 years of travel for TV. I learnt loads of stuff but I still think he's a bit self satisified. So the question is......
What do you think of Ray Mears?
and what do raw witchetty grubs taste of?
Ah Keeno, Ray is a Bushcrafting god. Along with a few others like Hough Fernly-whittingstall and the Bush tucker man, he has brought the whole Bushcraft and foraging thing to a very much wider audience than ever would have been the case without him.
Tell you what, we’ll get a fire going and a brew on, and we can discuss things over a nice wild rabbit roasted with wild herbs and cooked in the embers. You know you want to.
Ray Mears has ruined the whole barbeque thing for me. Barbeques used to be a sort of back to basics thing for surburban man. Now I feel I ought to be roasting venison that I've trapped myself in an oven constructed by red hot stones covered with turf. Charcoal is just for wooses
Don't mind watching Ray Mears, but found 'Tribe' to be a much better series. The guy who does that has some proper big kahunas to do some of the stuff he's done
Calm down you lot. The fires going and the witchety grubs are cooking.
