I've just hit 'tilt' on seeing too many adverts being dishonest.
I'm not talking about lying about the quality of the product - goodness knows there are enough of them.
No, it's the ones that show one thing then say another. These are food adverts and as we know food always has a 'recommended serving size'. Well, for cereals it's usually 30g, a fraction over an ounce. Yet, when they show the cereal in the advert and someone tucking in with relish, the bowl is full, postitively heaped up in the middle. And unless the person is a perfectly proportioned human at 3/4 scale with dish and spoon to match they are tucking into a damned sight more than an ounce of Tasty Cluster Delisciousness or whatever.
And the Nutella advert - 2 slices of toast loaded with enough Nutella to obliterate any surface texture of the toast completely. And yet a serving of Nutella - that's total for both slices of toast put together is 15g, that's half and ounce or a scant tablespoon.
I tried it, 2 slices of toast - at least 3 spoon fulls to give anywhere near the same coverage.
My campaign is simply this - if they want to advertise their product, they have to use average size people with standard crockery etc and displaying the recommended serving for their product.
Let's see how tempting that stupidly expensive cereal looks, when it is huddling at the bottom of the bowl. And wouldn't it help if they included a scoop that measured out one of these servings?
