I am little amazed. At 18 years I was at a Tertiary College which was a very different environment to a school environment. I was very mature for my age and already sexually experienced. I was close to having a fling with a lecturer of mine (he ended up being the true proffessional though). I totally see the point about being responsible for 'children' but at this age and in this environment I would have been fine to enter into a relationship..he was not that much older than me anyway! Having said this..I guess that teachers/lecturers should avoid such relationships to protect themselves from being accused of any wrong doing.
Going on the SO register for having sex with someone whom you could perfectly well have sex with if only you didn't work/go to the same school seems harsh.
But I would make one point.
I know teachers work very hard but are the 6th Form the only source of possible partners? I doubt it, they should keep control of their desires and go and check out the clubs and pubs for partners. Being careful not to pick up a pupil at their school - who could perfectly well attends the club in their own right.
How hard is it not to get into the position in the first place?
I've just heard that teachers will be screening 5year old for terrorists. They should report them to the police
personally the whole law on the issue is an ass.
if it was a good law it wouldn't throw up so many anomalies.
consider this. if a 19 year old student teacher has sex with 17 1/2 year old student, he gets branded and put on the sex offenders register according to the law as it stands, but a 60year old shop owner can legally have sex with their paper girl/boy on their 16th birthday.
you can legally have sex with a 16 year old girl but if you have a naked picture or even a suggestive one, you're a peadophile.
a 16 year old can legally have sex, but not watch sex at a cinema.
it's either legal to have sex at 16 or it isn't. it shouldn't be, ok your 16, you can have sex but we'll tell you who you can have sex with and what you can watch.
I personally think it's wrong if teachers have sex with their pupils and should be considered as serious professional misconduct and dealt with accordingly. but no way put on the sex offenders register. after all a 50 year old headmaster wouldn't be if he had sex with a 16 year old pupil at another school
