Can you lack confidence but not be shy?

Someone asked here about shyness, which made me think I often considered myself as lacking confidence but I don’t know if I would say I am shy.
I believe the two can be the same thing at times.
The way I overcome my lack of confidence is to laugh at myself I often make a fool of myself, someone once said I do it on purpose but that isn’t true, I can be a twit at times. But over the years I have learnt laughing at yourself is the best way of dealing with it, when people laugh with me I do not mind, when I find to many times people laughing at me I find I start to feel uncomfortable.
It is at these times I go shy and sink back within myself.
You normally find the people that put themselves as the joker are the people that deal with their own insecurities in that way, but as I was told by my parents growing up, “laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone”.
This has always held me in good stead when I have found myself to be in embarrassing positions where I feel unconfident.
How do you cope with lack of confidence?
Self-deprecation, humour, focusing on other aspects of my personality that I feel show me in a better light.
Failing that, lobbing my cock out usually results in a generally hilarious response.

Pretty much same for me, but generally being a smart arse is my way of hiding my lack of confidence around people I am not comfortable with, unless it is at work, where knowledge and experience means I don't have any confidence issues.

Agree with above
I always knock myself thinking I'll get in before someone else does!
Lack of confidence and shyness stops me doing the things I really want to do. It can be quite difficult with some things. I try to find an alternative way round that hopefully hs the same end result!
One of the things I really need to do at the moment is market/promote myself and I'm not good at that. Great at doing it for others! confused confused

I await the humour eagerly. wink

It's a long queue, many have been waiting years to see it.
