cant get the hang of this!!!

hi newbie here to the forum.... i have only ever posted to ask for tecky help lol

and we never really spent time in the forum until it was suggested to us at the nw munch by the lovely badge maker herself kaswallows.....we are now finding it so so interesting....with one really big problem....
omg we cannot keep up..we start to read a thread, but it changes topic so many times we dont know who or wat to reply too!!!!!! :lol: and by the time we have managed to read all the thread, every thing we thought about sayin has been said by those quick witted peeps out there :lol:
the only thread we have managed to follows so far is the confessional thread by searcher so so funny :lol:
so heres the question........how do we manage to get the hang of this confused

ps.. how do i put the persons writin in a box so they can see who i replyin too....oh and how long do you have to wait between posts :?:

its usually not as bad as tonight, i actually started a new thread asking for help as so many new threads had been stated i lost track of what i had posted.
i would look at one thread that interests you and post a reply and watch it. some threads go like wild fire others just simmer, to be honest once you start you will get the hang of it, like i said tonight was rather bizzare and quick.

You'll pick it up soon enough.
Trick is to be selective with what you read. As you get to know people's posting styles that will become easier.
Just one word of warnign with using the 'quote' button at the bottom right hand side, when you type in your contribution, make sure it is not between the other person's ..... - otherwise it'll come out as nonesense.

The way to get your reply in quickly before anyone else, is post stuff and nonsense like most of us do. :shock:

just keep posting guys. trust me, by the time you hit 500 or a 1000, you'll be doing it with your eyes closed, and you'll know the intricate workings of the site like the back of your hand!
don't worry about being original, cos none of us did! we just posted like loons! smile

:P any number of posts of absolute bollox a day is generally the way forward. ;)
to quote people, you could either just use the shortcut, which would be the button on the bottom right of a post, which will open the reply box with everything tagged for you, or you could go all out techie, cut and paste what you want to quote, and tag it by hand, like this . . .

This would be a plain unattributed quote.

Aaaaw bless ya Wanna kiss

Firstly if you are reading a thread and want to comment generally on the topic hit the "REPLY" tab at the top of that topic page, that will open a box for you to type in. When your done, hit the "SUBMIT" tab at the bottom of the page and there you go, you are done.
That's the easy bit, if you want to make comment about something someone has said, you hit the "QUOTE" tab underneath their post box (beside PROFILE and PM) that will open another box but inside will be their text also.
You can add your bit but scroll down until you see the word and that is your indication their text has finished. As long as you remember to type after that you'll be fine.
It takes time, i typed all over the place at first and was forever in my EDIT box!

Can you see the

button down at the bottom of this post? Just down and to the right? Yep, that's it. Well if you click on that it'll open a "reply" window with the text surrounded by quote brackets.
Just click after the "", tab down a couple of times so you leave a couple of lines and then write your post.
If you want to learn how to separate someones quote into pieces then PM me as it's a bit more in-depth. ;)

Right Liaisons, if we go back to January of this year when you first joined, it was actually I who stuck up for you in a radiator post and you welcomed that. Since then I haven't really had much to do with you until I challenged you in the Britany thread, which of course everyone had comments on. You thought for some reason I was 'obsessing' about remembering something from years ago when I was simply implying you had a better memory than I. From then on, you have continued to make stupid comments about my posting and about me in general. It is evident on Page 1. of your posts.
You have a history of being moody it's been noted, you also "have a go" in chat rooms (I have seen this). There is not one bit of evidence in any of my threads connected with you to show an "unpleasant theme".
I'm really not an unpleasant person and maybe it's you who now has the "obsession".... That's about it in a nutshell and I agree with your proposal, don't address me anymore and we can all be happy. lol

My oh my the things some people write in a forum thread!
Maybe my memory is failing me but I don't remember much of what 'rubbish' is written by others in a chat room, apart from that by women I might fancy. I'm amazed that anyone would remember what I had posted there.
Sorry to say I don't recall seeing the previous poster of this thread in a chatroom, I will have to be more observent in future...
Regarding a 'radiator' post an SH member has refered to, that was a long time ago and I had actually forgoten about it. The radiator is still white BTW.

But for me, that is what is good about the forums, the diversity, the different 'charactors' and the general banter. I know you get this in Chat, but in chat, you cant just nip back and see what 'so-and'so' had to say while you were off line.
It looks like the techies above have sorted out your quoty stuff, but just something I would add to it, use you PREVIEW button, that way you can check your typing is in the right place and move it if necesary.
Dont worry about keeping up, Ive been a while now and still not got a clue what is going on, I only came for some cooking techniques, but still struggling to find the right threads.
