right me and the bf have a car stereo problem, dont know much about car stereos so please help!!
we have a skoda and when we got it we replaceds the steroe with a ford one from a scrap yard so the car has ford wiring. this was fine but was a tape player so we have upgraded.
got a new stereo from aldi the other day and bought a iso to ford connector, however once u put the car ignition on the stereo doesnt recognise the speakers are there until u unplug the iso/ford connector and put it back in again. its then fine and plays ok until u turn the ignition off again.
if anyone can help and needs more info on my problem i can try and explain better
thanks a lot babes xxxx

Its possible that the stereo has two power feeds, one which is a permanent live and the other is a switched live.
Sometimes the fitting kits have wires which you can swap around to get the correct combination.

Go to halfords and ask them for advice. My new Sony CD in my golf played up when i fitted it to replace the sony cassette. They re-wired it for me for free. I they will do that for a guy think what a girl can get out of them?

i'm with davejw on this one. been fitting and fixing stereos since 8-track was cutting edge and never heard of anything like this, try a new stereo first cos the only idea i have is that you might have an earth/ground problem(but your old stereo worked so????). you can test this with any basic test meter. switch ignition off, clip a lead to the negative terminal on your battery, set the meter to read resistance Ω , connect the other lead to the metal case of the stereo, anything over about 1ohm may be a ground fault. feel free to pm me if you need any more advice

Right I guess this may be obvious but its worth a check. Have you checked the fuses to see if they are all working? I remembered Halfords blew the one in my golf when fiddling around and when nothing worked forgot to check. Then another one of them suggested check the fuse.
Sorry if im asking a dumb question.

This maybe a not so obvious question >>
Are the speaker leads to ALL speakers, if there are more than two, wired the correct way confused:
On a two speaker system if one is correct and the other reversed they will be out of phaze, somthing you will not notice by listening to them but the microchips will notice a difference and may be shutting down. (a kind of reverse polarity)
I am no techie but just a thought. redface I hope that makes some kind of scence....
