Do pretty, smiley and happy check-out staff work harder in supermarkets?
They do if I am about.
Dunno about pretty staff dunno
But when I was a retail manager, I used to train checkout staff all the time - they, as I used to remind them - are often the last impression a customer gets of the store and the brand. Good customer service at the cash desk is vital.

My last impression of Asda one night in the week was......
"Phwoar! I wonder if she swings?"
my last impression was "stunning!"
as I walked out, the automatic door didnt open...

Do you realise how much shit those poor girls have to put up with??
Once the customer has been all the way round... not got the items they want... had how ever many trolly rammed into there ankles... Nearly knocked down hundreds of old age pensioners who suddenly stop dead infront of them... Then decide to take it out on the poor check out girl who asks 'would you like any help with your packing'.. to get the nasty reply of... 'Im' not dead yet'!!!!
I do!! rolleyes
Great thread.. wanted to put a few comments too! I work in Asda in the bakery and think at times we get some grief too.. You get asked if you have something and when you say that you have run out they get right arsey and tutting under their breath, showing them where things are or even getting them for them not even saying thankyou.
We certainly do see some sights.. people are in such a hurry and the other day this family had loads of kids with them and the parents were letting the kids do what they liked.. one of them took a birthday cake off the shelf and because he didn't like the look of it he threw it on the floor and walked off.. i really wanted to call his parents over but wasn't sure of what reaction i would have got and i was on my own at that point
I hate walking round and doing my shopping as you get people that push and shove and they always seem bad tempered. Thank god for home shopping i say! biggrin
I have always admired many of the checkout girls at our local supermarkets, but they are a wee bit like Policemen and Teachers in that as you get past forty they seem to get younger. Therefore Silky has banned me from flirting with them for fear I may appear a dirty old man confused
Tesco man asked if I had a clubcard, "I'll give you my doorkeys", I replied......He replied "I wish"!!!!
Don't know about him smiling but I blushed and he seemed happy in his work. Back in a bit, Tesco calls biggrin
Having done it myself - I do appreciate what the checkoput staff have to face.
But why is it that when all the queues are huge and I've waited for ages, as I load up my goodies on the moving thing, the fast, experienced checkout person is replaced by a fresh-faced and terrified trainee who can't get their key into the machine, let alone deal with a missing bar-code??????????
:giggle: Ok only a couple of times - but it's them you remember.
why do I always end up in the queue with the slowest check out lady of the lot, who will invariably blunder with the 2 people ahead of me causing me a 30 minutes wait, and then tops it off with an attempt at conversation that really is a monologue about her misfortunes, the attitude of the guy who's just left the counter, her opinion on the situation in the middle east and the breeding of purple hamsters?
It's all because you haven't found me. biggrin
i always try and make a habit of going to the checkout with the hottest girl on it....
any opportunity to flirt wink
