I have had enough of this. Its a really silly thing to do this swapping clocks thing. Give me one good argument that supports the current practice that cant be solved by individuals affected getting up at a different time. It is only a bloody number after all.
had this discussion at work yesterday my friend said "why put um back" i asked if she would like her grandson walking home in the dark in the winter "ooo no i would hate that" she replied "but why put them forward again why not leave um back" she asked well do you enjoy sitting out in the light evening till around 10 at the height of summer in daylight well make that 9 if we don't put um forward
needless to say she thinks it a great idea now lol
We invented Greenwich Meantime (GMT) and set the clocks of the world, so we should jolly well stick to it - so there!
Plim

There is no need to change the clocks. All that needs to happen is that each region picks the appropriate school start and finish times for their daylight hours. There is even an argument for the school day to be shorter by half an hour or an hour in December and January in the North.
The universal changing of the clocks dates back to when every factory and office started and stopped at the same time every day right across the country and when London dictated when Scottish schools opened and closed. Many companies now work on staggered or flexi time. Companies and schools are capable of setting their own times. So there really is no need for a nationwide clock change at all.
If I want to sit out until it gets dark I couldn't care less if the clock says 9 or 10 - I go in when it gets dark. biggrin
All that said - I like it cos it's a marker of the change of the year - especially in Spring.
oh right so close schools earlier n have all the parents up in arms cause they gotta pay for the extra child care
yeah that makes sense lol

There's no ideal - personally I've got no problem with children going to and from school in the dark. Juniors generally get taken to and from by an adult and senior school pupils can get the bus. biggrin

fair point i guess
in the war they had double daylight savings time where they put the clocks forward 2 hours in the summer so the factory workers could go help with the farm work and was also summat to do with bombing raids can't rember wat exactly but my uncle was tellin me about it today
sure it would give u lot more to grumble about though
What we should campaign for is 'Garden Time'. Everyone (apart from MP's) gets 2 hours off for 2 days each week so you can get home and do some useful gardening before tea. biggrin Get the kids involved - fresh air and exercise etc etc. With pay of course.
Sorry - fantasising there. :giggle:
