I know what you mean... if I buy anything in a size 18 from Evans it fits.. but most other shops don't! drives me mad.. and I hate trying on clothes in the shops so end up taking them back...
Same with shoes.. I take a 3 in some shops, 4 in others and 5 in Ravel... HUH?
I wish clothes and shoes manufacturers would get their act together....
I like clothing that could need some ssstrettttch
however, that may well require a specialist retailer

I have items in my wardrobe of size 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 and they all fit. I have shoes size 6, 7 and 8 and they all fit. That's why I like to try before I buy.

My Mum bought me a blouse from M&S last xmas. I wore it out on a date for the first time and after just an hour or two I noticed there was a huge gap in the seem over my boob. Luckily it was a day time meet and the shops were still open, so I asked him if he wouldn't mind taking a walk over to the shop. (He was too polite to refuse).
After being given the choice to replace the item I went to find the same blouse again as I liked it. I found one in the same size and thought I had better try it on to make sure there were no faults on it. Would you believe I couldn't get it on, let alone do the buttons up.
I had to ask my friend to go find another one. He did, again the same size, but this time it swamped me. By this time I was getting a bit pissed off and decided to abandon buying the same blouse and found one that was made with a more stretchy material.
Half the problem is that they are getting these garments made so cheaply from countries that get paid next to nothing for their work, so standards slip. It's pure greed!
Dress size is just a guide line and can not be relied upon.
Pah - don't feel so bad.
I tried on wedding dresses the other weekend. The assistant says to me - 'ill have to hold it together - it's not going to lace up at the back' (fair enough, these shops only stock a sample size)
Me ' what size is it?'
Assistant '18 - you'll need at least a 20'!!!!
I wouldn't mind but in the 'real world' i'm a 12/14
*Her*
It wouldn't help all that much if they did standardise the sizes - 12, 14, 16 etc. Each size assumes a specific height, body length, shoulder, bust, waist and hip measurement, arm thickness, arm length, (same for legs), bust size etc.
Come on - is EVERY 'size 16' woman REALLY going to be the same in all those areas? Even with a choice of total lengths (I don't call 2 or 3 much of a choice) they completely ignore the other variables.
I'm wide in the shoulder, full in the bust and long in the body and I can NEVER find a dress that fits and constantly have to compromise with tops - even at available sizes.
And as a result I HATE CLOTHES SHOPPING.
