For the first time ever, I've arranged to take my PC to a computer repair shop tomorrow (no, not PC World, thank you), for minor repairs and adjustments, and some advice. I have nothing illegal on it, but I would prefer them not to see things like swinging sites and similar stuff. Apart from deleting the history and temporary internet files, is there anything I can or should do? Or am I worrying about nothing - have they "seen it all" in their time anyway? Any advice will be appreciated.
Mike.
Most computer shops (except PC World) are way too busy to ferret through your computer. Unless, of course, you are a celebrity. Then they will look at absolutely everything.
If they need to use the Internet and see something interesting in your History and have time on their hands they may have a look.
If you're paranoid: Copy your Favorites folder (from Documents & Settings) to a floppy then remove your FavoritesDelete everything in your History (Internet Options>Clear History)Delete your Temporary Internet Files (Internet Options>Delete FilesIf you're really paranoid you can delete Cookies as well, not recommended, (Internet Options>Delete Cookies)Finally run a disk clean up:My ComputerRight Click on Local Disk C:Click on PropertiesClick on Disk Clean upClick OK Oh, and follow Cool4catz advice and log out of any forums/web sites that you automatically log into, remembering to make a note of usernames and passwords...
Thanks everyone - I never log on to sites automatically, so no problems there. I'll do a disk clean-up, but maybe not bother deleting cookies. Thanks for reminding me about favourites John, I will copy them then delete a few.
Ta again,
Mike.
I use Crap Cleaner. This program cleans your system from temporary and unnecessary files accumulated over time. It also cleans internet explorer's cache, recently used files, browsing history, etc. You can delete everything or select only the items that you want cleaned, and also specify cookies that should not be deleted.
The program is free to use (freeware) and you can get it from
Hope that helps
if every thing is legal on your com then your ok cos all you have done and every where you have been is on there i could find it but most peps are ok
How/where do you adjust (is that the correct word) your cookie settings?

My pleasure...
I have a sort of rule. I say sort of 'cos I break it when ever I feel like it.
If a site, when opeining a single page, asks more than twice to put a cookie on my computer it is permanently blocked from putting cookies on the computer. Some site can request 10-15 cookies  What the fuck for?
You can also unblock previously blocked sites by clicking SITES in PRIVACY.
Part from the usual crap-deleters (adaware, spybot and the anti-v) I also run evidence eliminator.
It deletes all the inet ex cookies and loads of other crap as well.
I've never had any trouble with it, and never any trouble with sites that use cookies to sign-in with (ok, so you have to sign in again and be "remembered" on the pc) (small price)
It gets rid of cookies and the temp files, and then overwrites all unused space on the drive.
Let pc world do a glitter on that.
Dose any one know of a FREE program I can down load so I can send faxes as e mails
