when you going to give out the answer cause i am beat now- going for a cigarette to think about it!!

I'm not going to give the answer any time soon.
I'll answer peripheral questions as best I can without giving the game away, and I'll throw a few clues in now and then, but that's all. biggrin

do they only apply the logic to that round of voting - or the consequeces of the vote?

They will consider what will happen if they eject the leader, and the next leader, etc etc.
Quote by MISSCHIEF
OK the two most junior get none. The next two get two each (they get the zero juniors share of 1) - the leader keeps the other 96.
They will go with this vote, cos they don't want to be cast as juniors, which they will if they disagree, and one of the juniors would take his place and gets the 2 (2 more than he would have had).
Yayyyyy did I win? do I get a prize? :bounce:

Nobody goes down in rank. If the leader is ejected, the senior survivor becomes leader, that's all.
In the above scenario, the leader (call him Number 5, and the junior is Number 1) would be voted out by number 1, number 2 and number 4 because they could all do better if number 4 were to become leader.
My head hurts now  thought I had that sussed evil
Quote by PoloLady
OOooooh soooooooo if the head collector kept divided the condoms up equally between four of them, left one person with none??
He would still win the casting vote?

Or head collector could offer to only split with the next two senior collectors (the two who would also be at risk of being voted off if they become successors) and give the least two senior none. Still having a majority and getting a larger share.
He can only get the support of Number 4 (his immediate successor) by offering him more condoms than Number 4 could get if he became leader. So how many condoms does he offer?
Ice i can't work it out ... ..its abit late for me my brain went to bed years ago...

I first posted this puzzle on another website 3 years ago. The fastest correct answer was ten days!
(And don't bother Googling for it cos I've changed the storyline  )
I'll give this a go:
the leader, no 5 offers no 1 the lowest member 1 condom, because this is more than he could expect even if 5 were voted off, ie. no 4 does not need to secure no 1's vote in the subsequent round to win.
the leader, no 5 offers no 2, 33 condoms, because if no 5 were voted off, no 2's vote would be required by no 4, along with no 3 to ensure a majority for no 4 in the subsequent round
for no 4 to gain 3 from 4 votes, both 2 & 3 would require at least an equal share or there would be benefit in them voting off no 4, should no 5 be voted off initially.
however should no 2 not accept no 5's offer, no 5 still has the opportunity to attain no 3 &/or no 4's vote, leaving no 2 with nothing.
so finally:
no 5 keeps, 66 condoms
offers no 2, 33 condoms
offers no 1, 1 condom
i think.............??

Number 5 would get the two votes he needs with this proposal, but it's not his most profitable option.
for no 4 to gain 3 from 4 votes, both 2 & 3 would require at least an equal share or there would be benefit in them voting off no 4, should no 5 be voted off initially.

Number 4 would not need 3 votes. A majority is required to remove the leader - a tie means the leader wins.
however should no 2 not accept no 5's offer, no 5 still has the opportunity to attain no 3 &/or no 4's vote, leaving no 2 with nothing.

Number 2 would definitely accept, but Number 5 doesn't need to make that offer.
so finally:
no 5 keeps, 66 condoms
offers no 2, 33 condoms
offers no 1, 1 condom

Why 33?
Number 2 would accept from Number 5 any amount that is more than Number 4 would offer.
Off to start again :notes: as my other 955 bits of paper aren't making any sense  ........... Think I've got it this time tho cool
:undecided:
Try working the problem backwards: Number 5 knows that the others will be considering the consequences of his eviction, and Number 4's eviction, and so on.
No 5 offers both no 1 and no 2 1 condom each, since neither 1 or 2 is required by 4, should 5 be voted off
so no 5 - 98
nos 3 & 4 none
nos 1 & 2 - 1 each

nos 1 & 2 - 1 each

In this scenario, Number 2 would vote against Number 5 for the following reason:
If Number 4 becomes leader, Number 2 can make a profit. To secure Number 2's vote, Number 5 therefore needs to offer him more than Number 4 would offer. (If he offers him the same amount, the 3rd priority, removal of the opposition, kicks in.)
2 people, number 2 wins whatever
3 people, 3 would have to bribe 1 with a condom other option he gets none if 3 is voted off. Number 2 gets nowt.
4 people number 2 would accept 1 condom as doesn’t want it to go to 3 people where he would get nowt. Numbers 1 and 3 get nowt.
5 He gives number 3 and number 1 a condom, cos that’s more than they would get if it went down to 4 people. No point giving number 2 a condom instead of 1 or 3, cos that’s the same as number 4 would give him so he would still vote him off to remove competition (priority3). No point giving number 4 one, cos he wants it to go down to 4 people!
So....
Number 5 gets 98 condoms and numbers 1 and 3 get one each :bounce:
Wheres me prize? :bounce:
I choose a hovercraft :bounce:
