You've gone over my head a bit with the clique rant - the only mention of them in the thread was humerously made so I'm not quite sure about that bit.
If you have read my post as a complaint about cliques then you've completely misunderstood it.
Forums need new blood to survive otherwise they stagnate and get extremely boring.
The chatroom is far more popular with many users nowadays which is why I made my personal observation on the increase of threads about it.
Just because they hold no interest to me doesn't make it a clique, indeed many people I'd categorise as friends get a lot of enjoyment out if it.
The nature of forums and building realtionships with other users means that people will always harken back to previous things that have impacted on them, as well as new things that may be of interest to themselves and others.
Thats life and it will always happen.

sorry, i should have made it much clearer, the reason i quoted you, i gave before the (sorry folks rant coming on bit) post the rant warning was not aimed at you, and those it was aimed at know who they are.
i do apologize.
Ah right I get you now :thumbup:
Thanks for clarifying it for me biggrin

xxx probably live to regret the post anyway, but sometimes i just get so fed up with the snipers who think they can take the easy shot by disguising it as something its not, and delightin in putting a downer on the whole atmosphere of the place, and then wonderin all suprised why no one is posting. no wonder everyone has migrated to the chatrooms. dunno
We are in danger of slipping into navel gazing here. It often happens when you can't do anything about things.
Having been guilty on engaging in a hijack on this very thread a thought has occurred to me.
Most people used to put ............ and then when they were hijacking a thread. It is actualluy a very good thing to do. It makes it clear that you know you are hijacking - alerts the reader to the fact, thus enabling the thread to get back on track fairly quickly. It also has the added benefit of getting newer members to ask about hijacking and to become aware of the pitfalls that it presents.
I for one have become lazy in the use of this device but I will make sure that I signal it in future. If everybody did it - and all experienced members know when they are hijacking - then I think it could help improve the general quality.
Just a thought.
Oh and Pete -
Bollox=Good
Bollocks=Bad wink
lol
.
Dear Pete
unless I have missed something (which is possible) the dreaded 'c' word has only appeared twice - you being the second to mention it.
Just to be clear, by using the term 'familiar group' I am not refering to 'cliques' in a dressed-up fashion. i consider the two to be different things. Cliques are indeed bad things, they are closed circles with guarded borders and static in growth.
I honestly do not see the cafe as cliquey - I do see the hi-jacking and on stepping back can see how it can and (from some comments made already) is perceived buy people not familiar with those involved.
We often don't see our own behaviour changing as clearly as others do and it is easy to fall into habbits of behaviour without realising.
There is another very valid point made regarding hijacking - give me a mo and I will read back and find it.

i guess that goes some way to explaining the hijacking and constant flirting, etc that's been mentioned earlier. at least those people are posting, and adding something to the forums keeping 'em ticking over, even if it's not universally admired kinda posting, and possibly self-interested, but then you have the problem of the odd half decent thread getting killed cos i for one can't be arsed reading through 2 pages of irrelevance and trying to get it back on topic, and seems noone else can either? ((( not a criticism, just an observation! ;) and yes, i've been guilty of blatant hijacking too! *hangs head in shame!* ;) )))

I have felt that way on a few occasions recently.

I will reply to this, but it deserves a considered and thought out reply and to be honest, am a little preocupied at the moment redface just don't want you to think that after last night's frustration fuled rant that i am now avoiding the thread, i'm just thinking about your comments. kiss
polo, i've never seen the cafe as cliquey either. i might have thought so for a while when i first joined, when it seems as though everyone already knows everyone else, and how the hell are you gonna break in, but actually it's nothing like cliques IMO, and pete i was surprised to see you felt that they were so obvious? dunno it's just some people interact better with others, and naturally gravitate to the group of people they're most familiar with, whether because they share similiar posting styles, warped sense of humour, or know eachother well in real life. certainly nothing like a closed shop designed to exclude others. i'd say the opposite is more true, that many people go out of their way to be welcoming and helpful to n00bs, and interact with them just as readily when the opportunity arises?
on hijacking . . . i don't think it's necessarily "a bad thing". god knows there was a time when i and others raced round the cafe hijacking threads at a ferocious pace, but you have to know which kinds of threads might stand a hijack, and be prepared to leave it alone if it heads back on topic. the kind of hijacking i really have no time for is the "ooooo get you you saucy minx . . . you're lovely you are . . . so are you . . . passionkiss . . . :twisted: . . . :rascal: . . . . blah blah blah" ad nauseam for page after page. it's of no interest whatsoever to anyone other than the 2 or 3 people posting, and that really does serve to effectively exclude everyone else from that thread. o.k. in moderation, but really, that's what PM boxes are for! a good hijack though of a thread that's served it's purpose can turn something dull as dishwater into something glorious, so long as it's not putting the original posters back up, gives everyone else something entertaining to read, and leaves room for others to get in the act, rather than excluding them?
and seeing as how this thread's now been hijacked to death, as far as the topic goes, i'll toddle off and make me tea. ;)

I've been bumping a few of the old favourites recently as I wanted some of the newer members to see some of the threads that used to have me crying with laughter or shaking with anger.

Ahhh it's you is it that's keeping me in the cafe reading all the old threads lol?! I've noticed a few really good ones appearing but they seemed to be 'old' when I looked at the posting dates.
