I thought thats what photoshop 7.0 was for ? :dunno: and such things as crop, or even compose the picture in such a way as not to show such identifying features...............especilaly if you are going to distribute them as opposed to keeping them for 'personal use' wink

And many independant tests have discovered that the effectivness of these products is negligable(sp?)

Nothing... but it does say this on the door as you come in:
The Cafe
General discussion and chit-chat. Post anything here that is NOT a Meet Up or about Dogging.
More to the point, if you are speeding you deserve to be caught, especially if near a school, houses and shops. (and yes I have been caught twice now)

Speed cameras are just aother form of tax. If the councils really wanted to improve safety, they would have them near accident hot spots. Also near schools etc.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much correlation between the location of schools etc and speed cameras. I still haven't seen any cameras near any schools yet. I support the use of them in urban and built up areas, but really, on the motorways?
The speed limit is kept below what most people believe to be acceptable (and within safety) yet the govt keeps it deliberately low so that they can then encourage people to speed ==> more tax for councils.
Veejay, I politely disagree with you.
In manchester there are quite a few in accident hotspots and one I know of right out side a school where one of my childhood friends was knocked down while crossing the road at lunch time. I welcome speed cameras cos if nothing else it makes you look at how fast you are going.
If it saves one life it's worth it.

You misunderstand me. I too was knocked over at school during luchtime, this was about 12 years ago. Still there are no speed cameras near to that school. I think all areas where there have been accidents need to have speed cams, especially near schools and parks.
If safety was really the issue, then they'd be located more appropriately.
Unfortunately, I don't think there are enough where they are needed. They are only placed in areas where they will generate revenue. In the beginning, I thought that speed cams were a good idea. But the politicians (as always) have turned a good idea into something that people despise.
I think the 30 mph limit in some urban areas is too high, a 20 mph would be more appropriate. While on some m'ways, I'd say that could be increased to about 80 mph.
You are right about me misunderstanding. kiss
I agree that there are some places that are high risk areas and nothing is done to encourage drivers to keep their speed low. Speed humps are more effective in certain areas as they force you to go about 20mph or less cos they will destroy you car if you do any more than that. But on the other hand, what about emergency services? Speed humps everywhere would slow them down and make the services slow to arrive.
I think the only real solution to the problem is responsible driving.

Responsible driving?

I almost got run over while crossing at traffic lights afew weeks ago.
There will always be morons/irresponsible drivers. They are like animals that need external control. Speed cams followed by hefty fines would be good here. But speed humps are a poor choice.
They damage shock absorbers (even at lower speeds) and cause people to speed up/brake harshly (more pollution). Its not just the slowing of emergency vehicles, imagine being a woman in labour, or someone with a head injury (impalement?) and going over a hump even at slow speeds?
Hmmm............... bad idea.
humping........ hump Now you have my full attention! :rascal:
lol
confused Am I not right in saying that money raised from speed enforcement goes to the speed enforcement agency, not to central government? - or at least a proportion of it?
Speed itself is not dangerous - what is dangerous is the number of people who drive at high speed without apply the level of concentration it requires. - Point in case -
A lady who got caught 3 times in one day on the same speed camera. It had been up there for 6 weeks before a camera was put into it, she drove down that road everyday of those whole six weeks and never saw the blessed thing. What else could she have missed in that time? A motorcycle overtaking her? A cyclist? A broken down vehicle? A road worker? A pedestrian?
It was not the habitual speeding that was shocking - it was the habitual lack of awareness as she careered down the road at 80+ mph.
I would agree that revenue from speed enforcement - and all other on the spot fines for traffic violations, should be ploughed directly back into road safety - including the use of speed advisory boards, additional speed restrictions, and the enforcement of parking restrictions outside of schools.

Next you'll be saying that road tax is only used to improve roads, and national insurance is used only for the NHS biggrin
Some of that money is used to place more speed cams in silly places. While the rest goes to the council and the police I think. In this country, we get shatfed at every opportunity (unfortunately though- only in financial terms sad )
