Ok well its finally here, day one of the no smoking in public confused
I am using this to totally pack in
I cant tell you the amount of times I've reached for my now non existant fag packet rolleyes
I know I can do this, I've cracked the drink, now just need to crack the smoking but day one is bloody hard
good luck hun kiss
I went to the docs on Thurs & asked to be put on the stop smoking course.
Still not sure about all these places you can't smoke though yet.
I was told that you can't smoke in taxis so if you give a passenger a lift in your own car can you smoke in it or not?
It is your own car after all dunno
If the answer is no then can't you smoke when you have kids in the car :dunno:
Good luck x
Go for it ... and have a large bag of Bombay Mix to hand ... and nibble non-stop!!!
Don't take one day at a time, take one hour at a time. Once you've passed an hour without a fag you can say to yourself "I can do another hour.." and so on.
Four years ago I successfully quit with the help of a smoking cessation group at my doctors with patches. It was a 10 wk course then you are on your own. You have to totally rearrange your day (ie., don't do what you normally do with fags - I used to light up with a coffee so my first day I didn't have any cuppas). Have a nice hot bath and an early night and before you know if you'll be on day 2.
It's a long process and won't be easy but as you say you've cracked the quitting of booze so you can do this also hun
Good luck! xxx

From what I can gather its to do with not smoking around people who are working. Hence a taxi driver is working so you can't smoke around him and pollute his working environment i.e. the taxi and expose him to harmful fumes.
Also if people who work i.e electric/gas meter reader, social workers, health visitors, midwifes, infact anyone who comes to your home as part of their job is entitled to come into a smoke free area ... namely your home. Which in practice means you have to refrain from smoking a couple of hours before they come and to open the windows to let the smoke out so they have smoke free air to breath. I assume this could also be extended to people delivering things to your home, if they have to enter your house to do so. i.e a furniture delivery or someone fitting a gas cooker in your kitchen etc etc. Its very confusing and its going to cause a lot of problems about implimentation for a few months. I guess in theory you could be prosecuted for smoking infront of the gasman but whether people would be that small minded to pursue this is unclear.
I don't smoke but I must admit I am appalled at the real anti smoking campaign that has gone on lately. I know its a health issue but people can choose can't they. :dunno:
On the other side of the coin if it encourages people to give up smoking who really want to that is a good thing ... best of luck to all those people today trying to give up.

Taxi's are public vehicles like buses etc., so no you cannot smoke in them, but your car is your own and like your home I presume you can smoke in it. Taxi drivers themselves are not allowed to smoke in their vehicle if they are on their own because it's deemed to be a business.

I've found the bit of legislation that explains about privately owned vehicles.

Privately owned vehicles do not have to be smoke-free where it is used by the owner for their private use or the person has no restrictions on the usage.

I work a lot in people's homes and can spend up to 10 hours there per shift. It can be really uncomfortable if there are smokers around but mostly they are respectful and smoke outside, especially due to the nature of the illness of my patients.
I did have one patient who refused to give up and got through 30 fags in one night!!!!! I couldn't wait to get out of there! confused
thanks for clearing that up for me & for the link- very useful. kiss
Back to lilacgem, I'll be there with you when I start this course a week on Friday. could always start a give up smoking support thread lol
I know, I know its nothing to do with swinging rolleyes It is supporting each other though as friends if we need any

The smoking regs do not apply to domestic premises. If you are going into one for work purposes tough really. Guidelines suggest asking them to stop smoking about an hour before you arrive and leaving a window open but if they disagree there's not a lot you can do.
Vehicles are classed as a workplace if they are used for work by one or more people (including at different times) or if they are used by the public for services. So no smoking in a taxi. If you do - you are liable for a fine and so is the driver for allowing it.
See - knew my boring job would come in handy one day lol. Any more questions - ask away lol

And have you heard that there will be a possibility smoking in council rented homes will be banned also? This will be in the event of council workmen having to enter the property to carry out repairs..! quote me if I'm wrong I'm only saying what I've heard, hearsay at it's best! lol
I've smoked on and off for the last 10 years, my most recent spate of non-smoking was early last year up until last summer. Why-oh-why do we start again?
I totally gave up alcohol almost 3 weeks ago and smoking is next on my list. I've cut down so that I never smoke in the day, only ever when I get home after work. Now I've bought the patches, I just need to pick a day and stick to it.
We've had the smoking ban in Wales for a few months now and it's nice to come home from the pub/club and not stink like an ashtray.
The problem you'll find now is having to dodge the traffic because the smokers are clogging up the pavements outside the pubs confused
Who's gonna pay for all the little Hitlers that will be travelling the pubs and clubs to check no-one is having a crafty fag in the bogs confused:
Ooooo I know....
Now they are going to reduce our refuse collections to fortnightly then the binmen can work a rota system....
One week bin man one week No smoking enforcer....
Anyway how are you today Lilygem? biggrin
You have done the first day as a non smoker .. congratulations. Now you only have to manage half as long a time today without a ciggy, cause by the end of it you would have gone 2 days without smoking
See getting easier all the time kiss
Soon enough you will be one of those obnoxious ex smokers that rails on about the old days and how bad they were and how glad you are to be a non smoker now
lol

council related homes have been sent a letter requesting the tennants to not smoke 20 minutes before a workman/woman is due, they do however have a choice to follow this or not but the workman/woman can then refuse to go in and do the work if its smokey

What if the workmen are due at 9am and don't turn up until midday? Will you have to keep off the fags just in case? And what if they turn up unannounced as two did to me last week?
