I think everything goes full circle eventually and it is bound to come back round again to be the norm, although I doubt in our life time.
Would it be better? If everyone is more open minded with it and we don't have to feel the need to keep it from our children and our parents, maybe, although as you say, the idea of doing something does add a little to the flavour of it all.

Until there's a major whiplash effect against religion then the answer's no.

Seriously, for me it is the fact that our swinging is not public knowledge and the fact that is our little naughty secret, that makes it special.
