Anyhoo, question. If it ain't broke.....

But what if it is broke?
What if it isn't?
Dave_Notts
If there's complaints it must be.
:P
That's Democracy though ... the majority of people aren't complaining so kinda negates the discussion?

well as a purely amateur in this forum, i kinda get the impression you dont like most of the people in here, so thoguht the question apt, my personal opinion after reading several threads though biggrin

That no doubt goes both ways. lol
Surely the proof of the pudding is in the eating (think I'm hungry that's why that expression sprang to mind).
Personally I think, on balance, the mods do a difficult job vey well and I have not noticed new mods upset the applecart so I presume the selection process is working fine.
The question, as I see it is.
Are the mods doing , on balance , a good job?
A simple poll added to this thread may demonstrate whether the process needed fiddling with or not I suspect it doesn't .

In my mind they most certainly do. The only thing I would say is that if there was a couple of paid ops or mods, then maybe there could be one on here late at night.
I know most of them and they have been helpful and supportive to me, whenever I have needed them. For that I say thanks to them all.

Another rule could be.... a member that is banned has 24hrs from the time that they open the PM infoming them of this. In which they can appeal.
Does this exist or more importantly what is the current procedure of banning members on this website... confused:
I would very much appreciate an answer...any Moderators please answer this.
From,
Wunderhorse.

I'll answer to the best of my ability for you.
If your banned, you wouldn't be able to open a pm informing you of it (anyone correct me if I'm wrong in this please). Anyone who is banned does get a message when they log in, either giving a reason why or asking them to contact Admin regarding their account. A note is made as to why a ban has taken place so Admin can look that up and contact a moderator/chat op for more information if necessary.
I don't think there is a time limit to appeal as such, but it is best to do it as soon as you know this has happened. For example: why appeal months later? Unless there is a good reason for that of course.
Majority of bans are for short time periods and the member concerned is told how long it is. At times its more of a time-out or cooling off period.

Many thanks, anais.
I think that a set of rules & regulations should be placed as a Sticky in the The Cafe section of the Forum.
An example is the information that anais has provided above.
So people know the score, so to speak or type.
I feel that this would improve the service that is provided.

As a large proportion of the site users do not use the forums, it would not achieve anything by posting site rules in here. We have the terms and conditions and the AUP which are at the bottom of the page and that way, they are fully visable which ever part of the site you use.
well well after alot of consideration and thinking have decided to put my name forward to contest for moderator post,i promise to achieve the following
-to do my best to divide the forumist into two groups
-to only favour one group
-members of the opposing group must mail me any thread they intend to post 24hrs before its listed on the forum
-if the posting by the opposing group exceeds 30 replies it will be locked or made to dissappear
-one of the opposing member must be suspended per week
-more to follow during electioneering

Im so glad you said that, at least now I know its not my eyesight that is failing me. They do say it is one of the first signs of old age wink

Democracy is overrated and in fact thrives on an argumentative environment. It is difficult enough attempting to conduct a discussion or argument in this medium without it descending into insults and too much heat.
I reckon the best system is a benevolent dictatorship, which is pretty close to what we have here already.
I 'vote' fer no change.

I have said in another thread!
The reason I am here is I feel secure in the knowledge that if I have a problem there are people that would help me to sort them out.
If you had the members voting for ops or mods it would go down the route if your face fits.
They have to be non bias and non judgemental and in having a members vote would I believe take this emphasise away. You could end up with a I’ll scratch your back you can scratch mine scenarios, the in and out crowds
Luckily I have never had to make a complaint but have asked mods and ops questions in the past and have always felt that I have been given a fair and just response.
So why change something that seems to be working?

quite agree
why meddle with wots not broke
folks forget the mods and ops do this in there free time
and they also have familys to look after let alone have fun themselves
it's not 'fixing what's broke' that should ever matter. It's 'if it works, how can we make it better' that should apply here. The first attitude would have us all driving around in model T Fords and the only plane ever built would be the Wright Brothers creation. confused:
It's nice to have opinions though, but who does appoint moderators and on what basis?

It's nice to have opinions though, but who does appoint moderators and on what basis? The Wright Flier was a copy. The first plane to fly under it,s own power was steam powered, flown in the west of England. The Wright Flier was just a big copy of a New Zealand farmers plane.

Fair point.
There is always room for improvement.
Democracy is an over-rated theory perpetuated by the capitalist running dogs.
You may return to your duties.
