The 3 easy steps to fixing a wireless network......................
1). Throw the wireless hub away
2). Fit a 3com 12 port hub and router
3). Sit back and enjoy 10Mb cable broadband in every room of the house, on a different PC / Laptop (as long as NTHell don't drop your connection

Interesting reading - I was thinking about investing in wireless but I'm not sure I'll bother now.....

I googled wireless & router.
Wireless........an old term for radio. I can help you retune it in for you. (Why Steve doesn't get you an up to date one I'll never know )
Router.......a machine that drills holes in wood. I used to do a bit of woodwork so can help you there.

I'm NO help - got a wireless router on my PC connecting 2 laptops, 2 mobiles, an iPaq and a Netgear music thingy and just hope my house doesn't explode or implode or anything nasty. Mobiles connect without being asked, laptops park themselves obediently and music plays from speakers randomly... spooky.

Do you need a WEP key - I thought WPA was OK for normal home installations?

Wouldn't want to entertain one here, more trouble than there worth and can be accessed to easily from that guy down the street or someone sat outside with a laptop
We have 7 computers here all connected with crossover's, yeah we know its a lot of wire but more secure and reliable.
if we want to sit in the garden with a laptop, we just plug bluetooth in one of the computer's, one in the laptop and hey presto hehehe

My network is invisible - bloke next door's is unsecured so someone can sit outside and access his.

Once you secure your network - like shireen wants to do, people can usually see it's there but can't access it. There is an unsecured one near me - but it's too weak to connect to.
When I set mine up I found it was best not to mix the manufacturers of the various bits - just get them all for the same bit of kit (Netgear or whatever). It shouldn't matter but it seems to.
You might need a box called a repeater if you find your signal is weak - like when you are down the bottom of the garden in the privacy of your own shrubbery. :twisted:

Little update
I tweaked the router last night and disabled the wireless part, (this is okay for us as all 3 puters are wired here) I enabled mac filtering so that only the 3 puters are allowed to use the network and then I changed the SSID to "piss off *****" (***** being the name of the twat using the network) :lol2:
It seems to have worked as he disappeared pretty soon after that. I will sort out the WEP key later but at the minute I am feeling a little shite and not really with it (Shut up at the back :lol2: )

Very close to my netework here, WEP and mac address secured, and the netowrk name - DONT EVEN BLOODY TRY
