Grrrrrrr, fekin wireless networks banghead
been trying to get mine working for ages now, finally decided there was a problem with the usb dongle widget so picked up a Pcmcia card today.
So, does it work now Meaty? does if feck :taz:
Anyway, on to the details, i have a Belkin F5D7230-4 router and a Belkin Wireless G Notebook Network Card.
done all the installation things, have set the Ip Address, Default Gateway, DNS and Alt DNS, WEP Encryption, Firewall etc. and anything else i think is needed.
The software is reporting an excellent signal strength and full connectivity with no limitations. problem is i can't get it to connect to the internet (Blueyonder ISP with Motorola Surfboard) but annoyingly i can connect by using the RJ45 lead.
WTF is going on dunno any ideas and suggestions to stop me tearing out any more hair will be gratefully received
Are you useing NTL?, You many need to set your router to spoof the mac address.
I can't believe you're asking for techie advice.
You've shattered the dream of you being my "techno knight in shining armour"
Seriously, we had problems when we had a wanadoo router - it works with the plug in thingy dammie got but not with my wireless laptop.
We then bought a netgear one which works great - well it does now we've set it up properly.
Sorry I said we there. What I meant was when someone came to our rescue and did it for us. redface

Sorry meat2pleaseu not something we can help you with either...
Tony is currently studying wireless stuff as he has found out after a few questions both online and ofline its a weakness he has that he needs to do some learning on... once he knows what there is to know about all the different wireless hardware and there bugs then he will be able to offer his help a little more on that field biggrin
Good luck though, I'm sure if you promise bloke something good you will get plenty of help

Ok, sounds much more interesting than networks :rascal:
Is the windows Wireless Zero Configuration service running? Sometimes that can interfere with the software that comes with the card.

The PM's are 'flying' between Meaty and I right now and he is weakening... I think one full-frontal nude pic is a very reasonable offer from one gay man to one straight one dunno
I mean I could have asked for a rim job?
wink

Just a quick suggestion while I remember -
On wireless encryption Microsoft changed the setting on the Key Index when they released SP2 for XP. So before this if your index was say 1, under SP2 it would be 2 (I think it was that way round).
Anyway, just a thought, just remember, although the keys may match exactly, you need to make sure the key index is also correct.
All this presuming you are running Microsoft - what a sad sad world we live in!!
right, off to try all the suggestions, but add anything else you might think of & i'll look later if i've not boloxed it up totally
Woo Hoo !!!
I know the answer to a techie question AND I get to strike a deal with Meaty and Bloke !!!!!
Think I've just died and gone to heaven !!!!!!!!!!!!
PM if you haven't solved it, I have the same stuff and have had the same problem xxx
i have solved it biggrin
I'm now running wireless :bounce:
basically decided to factory reset everything & reinsall all the software, which still didn't work fully but.......
went into the router config with the ip address and found a little tag box in SSID called prtected mode, which is something to do with data loading on B networks. little b'stard was stopping the throughput of the wireless to the modem.
so got it all working and then built up the firewall and encryption in steps, checking as i went.
Wooooo Hoooooo, can work and talk bolox to you lot at the same time now
anyway, about this deal, does it involve us naked?.... :rascal: (no need to involve bloke wink )

Which basically means you'll do even less work than normal because you won't have to get offline and move to go and do some work :giggle:

Just be careful with this one Meat.
I once gave a virtual tour of my half built shed to someone that I cared deeply about. This virtual tour consisted of a laptop in one hand, a webcam in the other, a phone cradled to my ear and a torch in the armpit.
Trying to walk over the joists, knocking over a ladder making a huge dent in the wall, and basically making a complete idiot of myself, did not make for an interesting evening.
Needless to say the relationship did not last very long .........
can't get that far into my shed without the aid of mountaineering kit
