Type II here.
59 year old bi-male, living in Weymouth.
Yes I swing :swingingchair:
Any offers ?
a brilliant and nicely put definition peanut. There are always the exception to therule and today we see kids getting type 2 diabetse as lifestyle has changed so much. The case is usually one of abnormally high levels of junk rood intake while playing on pc nintendo or watching TV. The rare case of eating more fats and sugars than your body can produce insulin to deal with but it is usually a humongous amount of food they are eating.
Others do have familial diabetes if you have one parent with diabetes you have a 50 % chance of becoming diabetic, if both are diabetic as in my case you have a 75% chance. Others may be due to bowel disease , some surgical proceedure, pregnancy many will never know why they got it.
but the crux of the matter is you can live a perfectly normal life style with diabetes. Ok you have to be carefull with your diet and exercise does help but what better way to exercise thn shagging.
There are complications with diabetes but a massive research project in the 1990 called the diabetes control and compliance trial found that if you control your blood sugar levels and keep them within a normal range you are no more likely than a non diabetic person to suffer from the complications.
so good luck hun embrace it and once treatement clicks in you will start to feel better than you have for a long time. When i went on insulin i felt i got my life back.
ok folks results of fasted blood 7.5 and cholesterol 8(the highest I have ever recorded)
Am now on metaformin and simvastatin and aspirin(junior ..so it seems I can be juvenile after all )
Got my first diabetics clinic this afternoon.
They've also had more blood off me ..I told them they are taking it faster than I can make it .Parts of me are deflating like a leaky balloon.! Seems my iron looks low hence more blood tests .
I have to provide poo samples too ffs.
Anyone into scat? ....I am so joking there ...!!!!!
:welcome:

Oh the joy of letting food rule your life rolleyes

Just be a little careful with some foods or too much booze because the stomach cramps and toilet trips will be a little more regular and uncomfortable sad

Me too, I've been naughty and reduced my Lantus quite considerably as I'm putting far too much weight on in spite of the fact I'm only eating about 1500 calories or less a day.
F :censored: ing metabolism; it really pisses me off sometimes.
To be slim and feel like shit or balloon up and feel better, decision, decisions. rolleyes
i was going to give this one a rest, but it cropped up again, to all those that debunk, I'm a diabetic with no medical problems and not on any medications, i just watch what i standard advice given to diabetics is as wrong as you can get, and to you peanut, unqualified is not uneducated or ill informed. you have no idea what I do. but the history of medical science is my job. i study scientific papers as a hobby, same as i do for work. I know everything that is known about the condition, i know the cause, i know the symptoms, i know the the effects. but at the end of the day, i will keep my legs and sight, can you say the same thing.
just remember. one doc came bottom of the class, he could be yours lol
My name is Ben and I am a diabetic and i swing.
Ive had it for about 15 years and am currently prescribed Metformin and Avandia.
My dad was diabetic from a similar age and following the dietary advice he was given (essentially low carb) he lived to be 88 with no complications.
I followed the advice of my GP and practice nurse for 14 years and have suffered severe nerve damage affecting all the nerves on my left hand side and my erectile function and bladder control. My blood sugar levels were consistently in the plus 10 range.
Recently I have taken to a change in diet in an effort to stop this damage. I no longer eat significant amounts of carbohydrate (by which i mean any carbohydrate not just sugars which i never ate anyways). As a result my blood sugar readings are now in the the 5/6 range all the time, I am losing weight slowly and feel fitter and less sleepy than I have in years.
I believe the dietary advice given to diabetics in this country is fundamentally wrong.
To answer the original query losing your big stiff todge can be a bit disheartening but you learn to adapt and it isnt certain it will happen.
could of said it was me that told ya lol
lets see how well uyou are in 10 years time ill stick with the consensus of medical oppinion
consensus. such a magical word. you do realise that consensus has no place in scientific debate. Consensus usually comes about when the science does not fit the hypothesis an individual pressure group is trying to promote for their own benefit. I hate the word consensus as much as i hate doctors lol. I can guarantee you, if a pressure group is trying to promote anything, and they use the word consensus, it's usually cause they're wrong.

Perhaps you should have given it a rest.
What I said was that you are unqualified to give advice on anything but your own circumstances. Uneducated never came into it.
For you to manage your diabetes with no medication means you are borderline diabetes along with all the other borderline diabetics who are told to manage their diabetes with exercise and diet. They are of course told to do so by the very doctors you despise.
The fact remains that you are totally unqualified to hand out advice to a diabetic neophyte that he should ignore his doctor's advice. Especially as you have no idea about his particular circumstances. Even the highest qualified diabetic consultant wouldn't do something like that with so little information to base his/her advice on.
All diabetic advice is given after tests have been taken, interviews given and understanding the patient and his/her circumstances. For you to hand out "ignore your doctor's advice" after reading one post in a swinger's chat forum is undeniably stupid.
Just because you can handle your diabetes the way you do does NOT mean that other people can. For example I cannot do it. I need additional insulin as my pancreas doesn't produce any so your advice falls down right there. How do you know that NGDE's pancreas isn't on the way out? If he took your advice he wouldn't know either!

you believe what the hell ya want. why would I care.
i think we should all make our own conclusions . if you dont trust doctors , fine , do your own regime . but in my opinion diabetes care and treatment has come on leaps n bounds over even the last 3 years that i have noticed . more doctors and specialist nurses understand what the effects this disease has on us and are very effecient in its treatment . the government has set new criteria for doctors and healthcare specialists dealing with diabetics as the diabetes explosion has serious effects on the nhs . i trust my health care team 100 % and will follow the advice im given . im also a member of diabetes uk and they offer very good advice and help to diabetics .just my tuppeny happenies worth rolleyes

I'll take 'consensus' over a single example any time. A single example is statistically insignificant and medially irrelevant to anything but itself.

I will be fine thanks Corrie the people on here will keep my feet firmly on(my legs  ) the ground. I am finding this thread very useful in terms of increasing my knowledge and understanding of the disease. In particular I have taken confidence from the fact that so many people are living with the condition and managing it successfully.
I hope people wont get fed up if I resurrect it from time to time to sound out the latest medical advice I have been given or just somewhere to share my experiences and get frank feedback .
Thanks again to all the posters smile
I am doing very well NGDE! Dont get to post much these days but always look out for threads where I know the author. You have a great attitude to life so I am sure you will manage this. Its this sort of thread that bring the best out in this community. We arent a bad lot really ...........
