Do paying members feel a bit miffed?

Don't get too excited. It passed quickly and I think we can all forget that momentary blip. wink
I am a paying member -extras membership- for three years it must have cost me about £210. I also pay on another site.
I belong to several free sites and I get out of them what I pay for- nowt.
I feel no obligation, resentment or gratitude towards the free members.
I must enjoy it here I stay. I use all the facilities. I resent one thing and one thing only... and that is having a male/female icon in the chatroom if I were to change my account to a couple. But that is a minor thing and Admin have told me it is on their (I can imagine huge) list of things to do. That is the only thing I have had a tantrum about.
The support system works.
The Mods and Ops work.
The site- for me - works. (I have certainly changed loads since I have been here)
If I didn't like it I would have disappeared.
I do get heartily sick of people whinging though and if I could pay more to remove the moans then I would.

Thankgoodness it is only that as would hate to have to agree with you again. Lets hope it is a once a year thing eh? lol
Old freebie member here wave (should I re-phrase that?). Mrs C also has a transferred account (which she never uses because she's happier rubber-necking over my shoulder rolleyes ).
I guess I presumed the transfer to a non-paying account was the new owner's way of negating on the site when they took over.
As a "free" member I appreciate everything that's been done to improve the site - extra functions, new servers, additional "bandwidth", etc. But would I pay the fee? No, I wouldn't. I joined a site that was going to be free forever.
However, I do try to support it where I can. I try to welcome new members to make their experience a good one, and I lend a hand by reporting the occassional dodgy ad whenever I can.
TBH, I remember the takeover being a big thing for all the members at the time, but in retrospect I'm pleased to say I believe the site has grown beyond what it would have been under the old ownership.
we joined by coincidence, just before the take over & hence free members. There was quite a stir in here around the takeover at the time.
Yes, I'm very grateful that we don't have to pay however, it doesn't make us any better or worse than paying members.
I thought we were all one big happy family dunno Of course there's arguements but there's arguements in all families :giggle:
Do paying members feel a bit miffed?
Nope, this one doesn't.
I pays my dues and use the services provided. Simple, really.
cool
my God you means some people dont pay,do they get extra for free too?

Nope- some of us joined when it was a free site, and have stayed free members. We get the basic package free- not the extras.

I joined just before the change ( so to speak :giggle: ) but don't get the extras. It's only fair that if I wanted them I should pay for them

Nope. I'm a free member, and I can see both sides.

No more so than when we joined it as a free site- it just has more bells & whistles. The people who make SH what it is remain at it's core.

It was just a case of being in the right place at the right time, just lucky I suppose. I'm not sure if I'd pay to stay, although I enjoy it, I might just find ways to be a bit more productive with me time biggrin

I saw it in your blacked out foofoo................
I just wanted to say a thank you to st3v3 and all the other mods, and admin bods that help make this site run smoothly.
I am a paying member and think the site overall is value for money. The chatroom has kept me company many a nite with great chat from paying and non-paying members.
I too have tried free sites and found them to be lacking. Here you get all the bells and whistles technically plus protection against miss-use.
Its the only place I can get my tits out on cam and not be bothered by weird comments lol. As the mods/admin really helped me when I got abusive mail.
I like most others have had a few gripes about things on the site, most of which I grumbled about to myself lol. But I would imagine most folks grumbles lead to the positive change for the better of the site.
Thanks
Ruth xx
When I joined this site it was on the understanding that I would pay a membership fee ,I had no idea that some received free membership ,these people joined (with good faith )a free site . I can't see a problem , why would I or anyone else begrudge or resent their good luck.

 Don't know why they'd begrudge anyone really.
As with anything involved with capitalism and such. those who get in on the ground floor, get to reap the rewards in time.
In this case the reward is continued free membership, as that is all that was offered in the first place.
Do paying members feel a bit miffed?
Don't know because I am a freebie! bolt

We joined in early 2006, unlucky to get free life membership, So we pay for our membership which we don't mind in the least (Blimey its only 96p a week absolute value) for as the site is a great site and has been such a positive thing for us.
I however will inevitably jib in a couple of months at forking out the £50:00 knowing others out there are not. And that maybe the paying members, well no maybe about i,t paying members really are supporting those who get it free. Maybe there should be an integrated introduction for the veteran members to start paying just a nominal amount maybe say £10:00/year year going up by £5:00/year until parity.
I know if i was getting it free i would probably be spitting about what i'm writing, but its a good, worth paying for site, which is having the newer members supporting the older ones. Not really fair on the new members is it. Just like to add that we didn't know prior to joining that it had been a free site.
99% of the time this doesn't bother me but after a discussion with a couple of people over a drink or two I just thought I'd ask in here.

So the 1% induced you to introduce this little piece of mischief did it?
Apart from alienating a few people hereabouts, what do you think this evil thought is going to achieve?
Is it going to suddenly make the site profitable? Is it going to make paying members - those who joined on paying terms, feel any better?
Is it going to reduce the subs paid by paying members?
No - all this I doubt.
What it will do is stir 'em oldies up a bit.
Jeesh!!! rolleyes

I am a paying member on my second membership - cancelled one previously and then regretted!
It's interesting to read that non-paying members would not pay to stay if they were suddenly made to pay. Is that because of the principle or because you feel the site ain't worth it for you but it's ok for the rest of us? :scared:
