Christmas is coming, joy to the world peace and love to everyone in the world.
So if Christmas is the time of joy and sharing, why have some councils banned the use of the word Christmas?
According to the beaurocrats it is an offence to people of other religous beliefs..
One more question has anyone ask a person of another reglious belief,
Does the word christmas offend them?
Well if a word is gonna hurts someone's feeling why don't we just ban the use of words ...
Do we really need to make 'Christmas' more inclusive than it already is?
The thing is the word "Christmas" only seems to offend the people who say it offends...you can ask anyone of any other faith and the most likely answer is its a ridiculas idea to ban the word...or they are possibly offended that someone has decided on their behalf that it is an offensive word for them!
Oh please don't get me started on the over zealous PC brigade mad
A supposedly Christian country having to cow-tow to everyone else for fear of upsetting them really gets under my nails. evil
Christmas is a festival celebrated in this contry so if it offends anyone when I mention Christmas then thats just tough titty as far as I'm concerned....
Have they really banned the word or was it just hearsay?? I'm only asking as I was watching something on TV few weeks back and it was insinuated that the ban wasn't genuine? dunno
If it's true then how do you explain to thousands of children that Santa now doesn't come at Christmastime but only at 'anothertimewaitingtobedecidedonit'sname' lol
As more than 160 countries celebrate Christmas, how all of a sudden has it come to be that the word offends? and for the people who don't celebrate Christmas, they normally designate 25th as a holiday for Christians, so in my opinion they don't have a problem with the day either.
It's absolute madness, when will it end rolleyes
I know a lot of people from other religions who actually join in with the festive side of Christmas ( as is the case with a lot of people as very few seem to celebrate it as the birth of Christ and not just a food/drink/gift fest ) My friends decorate their houses, give presents and have a traditional Christmas lunch so exactly WHO are we offending I'd like to know? dunno
its just another hear say load of rubbish .... there is no council that has banned the word christmas. It is simply people that want to make out the world is all politicaly correct.
Where you hear about this THE DAILY SPORT under the report about elvis riding Shergar on the moon ?

Its probably offending someone who thinks someone else ought to be/may be offended by it.......As is the norm these days...

I'm sure Birmingham council 'banned' it a few years ago, all their Xmas events were called 'Winterville' rolleyes
What the hell Christmas has to do with religion these days anyway!
If it is it's just because it's a celebration of the Great God Sterling. rolleyes

On that point I agree with you, now my daughter has grown up I miss the Nativities and Church Carol singing sad - last year I promised myself I'd find one to go to but didn't get round to it - the usual business of the month.
Financially, this year I've set an amount to each family member and won't budge past it, I'm sick of Crimbo being a financial burden that has me worrying the whole of December.

Thats something we do most years and usually end up spending more than the set limit :lol2:
This year we are only buying for the kids as are the rest of the family so it will be a bit cheaper...

another urban myth Meaty..... it was discussed at a meeting of the council..when ONE member brought up the subject. it was laughed out. But ofcause papers get hold of it and say they are thinking of doing it. NO council has ever banned the use of the word Christmas!!
I am not religous in any way, but I do love the whole Christmas thing. It seems to be the only time when most are happy, families get together, and good will.
I do not know about councils wanting to ban it, what I do know is I have never met anyone who hates that time of year.
Christmas Eve is the best day of the year for me, as everyone is in such a great happy mood. Pity there are not more days that filled people with such joy.

Just dug this one up from a few years ago:- >>> Used the search button = owch

" A CHRISTMAS CAROL "
Christmas time is here by golly,
Disapproval would be folly
Deck the room with hunks of Holly
Fill the glass and don't say when
Kill the Turkey's, Ducks and Chickens,
Mix the punch, drag out the inards
Even though the prospect sickens
Brother, here we go again.
On Christmas Day you can't get sore
Your swinger friend you must adore
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three hundred and sixty-four.
Relations, sparing no expence, 'll
Send some usless old utensil
Or a matching pen and pencil
"just the thing I need, how nice"
It doesn't matter how sincere it
is, nor how heartfelt is the spirit
Sentiment will not endear it
Whats important is "the price"
Hark the Swinging Heaven sings
Advertising wonderous things
God rest ye merry "room ops"
May yee make the Yuletide pay
Angels we can hear on high
Tell us to go out and buy !
So, let the raucous slieghbells jingle
Hail our dear old friend " ********* " (room ops name here)
Driving his reindeer across the sky
Don't stand underneath when they fly by
.

This doesn't surprise me in the slightest, in fact nothing like this surprises me anymore.
Last year I put a picture of the Pope on my office wall, next to my desk, and was threatened with disciplinary action if I didn't take it down. The reason? It might offend people of a different faith if they came into my office!!!
When my daughters was at school her nativity play was changed and baby Jesus became baby Babushka.
Where the hell are these people coming from.
I do not know if this is true, but would not suprise me. With keeping witht the thread op's question this may hold an answer.

What I do know is that the very people this is supposed to offend, they are the ones saying they are NOT offended. As a previous poster said " no council had ever banned the word Christmas ", thay may well have done now.
I bet we know the kind of people from this council who want to ban it, and they are NOT from another faith other than being Christian and most def white. Why do they continue to stir up trouble? Or do they have some kind of hidden agenda here?
Who are they trying to protect? Because all faiths that I know love the whole Christmas thing, so I would like to see the people it is " supposed " to offend.

Yep it is another Sun Report with a bit of truth put in. Birmingham City Council ran a three-four month sesion for business and locals about 10 years ago called Winterville. Why Winterville and not Christmas? Cos Christmas is on the 25th December only......any Christian knows that surely? And the festival was over winter.....erm seems simple to me.
Did they ban Christmas? Nope.....they had Christmas decorations, Christmas parties, sent Christmas cards and wished everybody a Happy Christmas at the correct time........ and the schools even had Nativity plays (shock horror).
It would have been bloody stupid to start wishing everybody Happy Christmas in October and January wouldn't it?
This is a perfect example of a Sun report with just enough truth in it for people to think the way their inner-self actually is
So when I see reports saying Councils have banned this or that I would like to see the actual proof that councils have. There are over 400 Councils in this country and every now and again an employee or Councilor cocks up. It does not mean all Councils have done something........or do you all really believe everything in the Sun lol

What is really christmas? a celebration of the birth of christ? celebration time? family time? what is the true meaning of christmas?
At the moment just thinking christmas is commercialised like anything else.
A few years ago an ex-friend of wife said she wanted a traditional christian christmas, complete with a christmas tree. Her reason was to have a dig at me being a muslim and my partner was a C of E. As a muslim we celebrate christmas as the birth of one of the important prophets. We decorate the home, lights, decoration and a tree, but however we do not place presents under the tree. The reason is that the tree was a non-christian tradition and the fir tree was given gifts/offering as see as having mystical powers i.e. living in winter. What has turkey to do with christmas? I think the rest you can find out on the internet.
So I question what is a traditional british christmas?

For me it is a time for families and especially for kids. Santa and seeing my Grandaughters face at Xmas time opening her presents.
Going around the shops and seeing the decorations and peoples happy nature. Seeing my Grandaughter do her nativity play last year, and of course the Christmas dinner. A time for giving and the one time of the year when people seem to really want to have fun.

Same as us time for family, sitting down as a family for a meal and fun.

Because I work in a multi-cultural situation (training centre for a British/international company) we are not allowed to put up Christmas decorations.
Now, tell me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that make it a NON-cultural situation? Wouldn't MULTI-cultural mean we celebrate a nice selection of happy events from many cultures.
Personally - I say stuff 'em. I put a nice string of tinsel around my desk and I'll defend it to the last breath (or until I get threatened with a disciplinary).

Maybe a quite word with your local paper to name them. Or maybe it could be to do with health and safety issues? dunno
