I watched the Robbie Williams interview over the weekend and he explained things written about him in the papers. One of the things he said he is facinated about, were ufo's and other living life in the universe.
He said he was branded as going mad.
I think to think such things or to question the exsistance of isn't wacky its just thinking outside the box, ok might be a bit of a romantic dream to think we are not the only planet with life living on it, but how would we really know when they are still discovering new planets.
So do you believe or want to believe other life exsists or are you happy to think we are in this vastness alone?
OMG I think I am a geek at heart.
i believe there are other life forms out there it would b very arrogant to think we r alone
i'm not suggesting they would b anything like us or even that they would look anything like the little green men of comic books but there is a very vast universe out there bigger than we could even begin to comprehend so why should there not b other life forms out there
so i'm with robbie on this one although not convinced they visit us they might b just as unaware of us as we r of them
You can get yourself into a bit of a muddle when you try to define "life" even worse when you try to crowbar in the idea of sentience.
Its likely that "life" exists elsewhere, but as to whether we have been visited, thats another question.
at what point does a synthesising group of molecules (RNA style) that can reproduce themselves, become life? Its a tricky question.
The line between self-replicating molecular structures (non-living?) and bacteria (living?) is a blurry one with my current understanding.
maybe somebody can enlighten me. smile
The concept of life existing away from earth isn't paranormal (in the accepted meanng of the word). It is a scientific theory that, as yet, hasn't been able to be tested.
I feel that, since we can investigate only a tiny percent of a tiny fraction of the Universe we know about, for anyone to say "there is definitely - -- - - " is ridiculous. Whether they are about to say - "no life" or "some life". We simply can't see enough to be sure about anything.
For myself - I think that while life may not be common (there are so many variables need to be in place for it to happen) I think there is probably some life of some sort somewhere in the Universe.
I'd lay money they don't speak English, and not with an American accent. biggrin:D:D:D:D
In terms of the paranormal, I am a complete non-believer.
Things that I dont believe in include -> Ghost, faries, magic, water divining, gods, spirit chanelling, ouija boards, fate.

If Derek Acorah says it's true that's good enough for me....I do think it's time he got possessed by someone other than a scouse spirit though

Of course I would never suggest that anybody who is religious shouldnt be, but I once literally watched a televangelist tell his flock that god was telling them to sell their houses and donate the money to the tele-church. It just makes me sick that people were *actually* doing it because a con-man was fooling them into believing those instructions were coming from the divine.
Still, as much as it made me rage, I was and still am so impressed at how you can convince somebody to give you everything.
Yup life exists other than on planet earth I think simply because of the universes infinityness.
The problem is finding it because it is as likely as not that it is a very long way away in either time or space. Even if we do find it what are the odds that we would recognise what we are seeing.
No harm believing and no harm looking tho.
Yes Minx you are a geek, see you at the next Star Trek convention.
(I was goona put something kinky in klingon here but I couldnt find a web translator that worked.)

It's my understanding that if it can move, reproduce, respirate, excrete, has sensitivity and can nutriate and grow....it's alive!!! :)
My ex-Ma-in-law reckoned she was a medium of some sort and could heal with the laying on of hands.
One time she told me she had a message from my decesaed Dad and that he 'is very proud of you'. Frankly I nearly decked her - how dare she presume to speak for my father! My response, instead, was "If my Dad wanted to communicate with me, he wouldn't pick a dippy old bat I was never going to believe". Thank gawd that made her and her bonkers notions back off.
Personally I have some idea that people don't simply fade to nothing after they die. Not sure what might happen but presumably I'll find out eventually. But I will never EVER believe that dead people, Gods or anything 'out there' would ever need a human representative on this side. They can either communicate or NOT.
I believe there is other life apart from us yes but as to if they have the technology to travel around the Universe etc I'm unsure...
Hmm, life elsewhere? Possibly. Will we ever find it dunno
Mediums? Big load of hairy bollocks. Sorry to the believers- but I won our little bet, didn't I? wink
The rest- who knows.
I do believe in big cats roaming the countryside though- because I've seen one.

Perhaps I should add I saw the bits it didn't eat ;-)
I've seen spirits, heard and felt a presence in the homes of a couple of my patients and I've had an experience which I can only describe as a guardian angel.
I'm not stupid, gullible or naive. Some things you have to open your mind to to be able to experience but if you think it's all twaddle, that's your prerogative. I know what I believe and that's mine cool
SPACE IS INFINATE
it is dark
stars occupy minute areas of space
they are clustered a few million here,
and a few billion there
as if seeking consolation in numbers.
Space does not care.
the limits of time are the only constraints on what we may see, or what others may see of us in all this unimaginagle distance.
Our nearest galaxy, is billions of miles away. Travelling at near-light speed we would take thousands of years to get there.
at pesent we know very little of our own Solar System.
Let alone the spiral arm of this galaxy.
Our nearest nieghbour on a galactic scale is a mistry to us.
There are billions of others.
oh yes. there is life out there.
If they chose to have a peek at humanity, I think they may remain observers from afar.
f they had the technologies to preserve heir bodies/intelects long enough to travel at the speeds needed to cross such voids, they surely wouldn'y bother to to stop... we'd be viewd as a potentially dangerous parasitic species, barely capable of communication amongst ourselves.
Perhaps a mild diversion as they blip past at near light...

lol i'm afraid not anoush. i was told about it by someone else who has lent me some fantastic books based in space. i then, being the anorak for knowledge that i am, did some research online to help me understand it more. i have to say that some of the science in the books is still a bit over my head but great stuff all the same!

Anoush, it's her "string" theory you gotta be wary of....
