During a conversation with another member from here last week, the subject got round to height.
It seemed to us that all of the people who made a really BIG impact on 20th Century were, in fact, not really that BIG themselves.
Small list of people, all average sized or less;
Gandi. Stalin. Churchill. Hitler. Lenin. Mao Zedong. Queen Victoria (mostly 19th Century, but sneaks into 20th). Maggie Thatcher
So does this mean that tall men never really reach the heights?
John
Well Prince is practically perfect and a genius musician and he's tiny wee... but boy he can rock in his cuban heels! worship
Answer to your question? dunno Erm... I just wanted to say how lovely Prince is. redface
Not sure if I should respond to this, as anyone over 5 foot 3 inch is tall to me redface
on a more serious note, I'm sure there is an equal number of people who have made an equally important impact that are taller than the ones you've mentioned
Yes.
I like tall, however I'd make an exception for Richard Hammond! :inlove:
It only matters with men though... I don't mind lickle women! :rascal:

Only if you want to go on the scarier rides.
Like Witchy with a bee in her knickers, that kind of thing.

I'm not entirely sure how to take that.
I'll sleep on it. You'll either get a passionkiss or a :sparring: in the morning. wink

Bring it on... I have my waspish friend ready to insert... ;-)
I'd queue for longer than an hour for my turn, I'll be quite honest... I'd even pay for the overpriced souvenir photo afterwards too!
5 foot 1 & 1/2 an inch is massively tall to a toddler :lol2:
Waits for Splendid to pick on my height again
:giggle:
In answer to the OP, there was also Napoleon (The Frenchman, not the pig from Animal Farm) as well as Bonny Prince Charlie, who was an effeminate Italian midget, as Billy Connolly called him. All were vertically challenged.
It's a good point, Barack Obama and the Canadian PM apart, everyone else is fairly small... Though I reckon if we ironed Gordon Brown's jowls and stretched them skyward, he'd get a good seven feet.

And then, shock horror... Osama Bin Laden is 6ft 5!
Obama's a politician- give him an inch...
It's called "Napoleon syndrome" as it happens.
However, Mr Boneyparts was 5'6 1/2. That was slightly taller than average at the time. He was a smidgen taller than Admiral Nelson, who was average height.
However however, bang your head on the ceilings/protrusions of a few period ships & you'll soon realise that being vertically challenged would've been a bonus. evil
(Incidentaly, we had a 6'11 cook in a 6'3ish Galley. That was interesting lol )
