Does our bladder shrink as we get older?

Just wanted to know if others have the same problem or have a way to help solve my problem.
As I have got a little older I have this problem of waking in the night and need a wee, and then can't get back to sleep again, so am often awake for a couple of hours in the night then tired half way through the next day.
Do our bladders shrink?
Have you had this problem or know of a way to stop this happening?
It is driving me crazy, I used to sleep all night, although I guess the 20+ cups of coffee I have in the day doesn't help lol
20+ cups of coffee - Respect Minx, it is lovely isn't it smile I think rather than your bladder getting smaller i expect its more of a case of the plumbing connected gets older and more ropey leading to weak and leaky seals lol

I know a good plumber.. if you need one.. wink
I find it's the colder weather that causes it. Come summer and it'll start to ease off. ;-)

Ballcocks comes to mind Groannnnnnnnnn!
Imagine a balloon
You blow it up and then let the air out
now repeat
and again
and again
eventually the balloon loses that rubbery flexibility that allowed it to constantly return to it's original shape - even faster if you blow it up to it's limit each time
Now that's your bladder
All that happens is that with repeated use the bladder is less able to retain the full degree of flexibility that it once could. And so it can't expnd and you need to peeeeeeeeeeee
Gradual weakening of the supporting muscles will have an effect too - allowing a tiny amount of urine through the neck of the bladder, not enough to be aware of, but enough to set off the pee-now signal.
One way to slow this process - and even reverse it to some extent - is to do your pelvic floor exercises.
For those not sure what they are - on the loo, squeeze to stop peeing. THOSE are your pelvic floor muscles. Flex the same muscles for a couple of seconds about 6 - 10 times in succession. If your tummy is going in and out, you're doing it wrong. Make the flexing more internal.
Do this many times a day - washing up, at the check out, any time you don't need to concentrate fully (like driving). You'll feel a difference. Ladies - the guys will love it, gents - you should be able to 'hold back' for longer. biggrin Win win.
(I've been doing them since before my 23 year old son was born and beleive me, it works!)
peoples bladders do alter as they get older but also drinking so much coffee could cause a problem to if its not decaf
caffeine is not good for the urinary system and often causes problems for people
the caffeine could also be the reason you find it hard to go back sleep once woken up
so maybe drink decaf coffee and limit the amount you drink late at night smile
Also avoid pepper when you get to a certain age
Un-prepared for mega sneezes, while stood up, are nothing short of dangerous
Only remembering pelvic floor exercises at point of sneeze, don't help either
On the bright side - I don't shit myself lol

Don't worry about it, at least your waking up to wee! It's when you don't know you've pissed yourself that you should start to worry
Isnt it what tena lady is for lol
as an old guy every thing the wee problem diabeties is something many people suffer with and not knowing for a while you notice your vision has changed. and you get a sudden urge to wee this can be many times a day, night times you most likely get up 2 sometimes more times during bit is out shopping sudden need to wee and your peeing as you walk.
