Hi.. don't want to be accused of doing stuff I shouldn't especially since I'm a newbie...but if anyone wants to hear about my other hobby...Bookcrossing...let me know and I'll post the latest book chase I'm involved with. You lot seem to have a good sense of humour anyway!
Otherwise I'll shutup redface

sound's delightfully strange...
tell us more...
Didnt think there would be much of a chase with a book rolleyes
OK... This is a copy of the latest e mail that I've got on it and it should explain it. Maybe dogging sites would make good places to leave books lol. Anyway...you did ask. Any fellow BookCrossers out there? Anyone want to join in?

Don’t buy this book!
Ever stood on the beach and wondered if you would find a bottle washed up with a message in it? Ever wondered who finds the helium balloon that has gone the furthest from some village fete? Ever thought you might find buried treasure? Pondered what you might find in a time capsule? Serendipity, adventure, chance…. We are all curious!
On that basis, John Donoghue’s plan to ‘release’ 500 of his books into the wild…left in coffee shops, on park benches, on the bus etc for anyone to find will appeal to us all!
The concept behind these random acts of literacy comes from BookCrossing. The Oxford English dictionary defines Bookcrossing as ‘the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise’
So…you find the book in the wild, you read it, and release it back into the wild again…recycling literature! It’s good for the circulation!
John’s book ‘Shakespeare My Butt!’ has drawn comparisons with Bill Bryson and Dave Gorman.
“Whilst that is very flattering” says John “It’s just a funny feel good book”
“Despite the title, it's nothing to do with Shakespeare (you have to get to the last line in the book to find out why it got its name). It’s just a fun book about the various stupid projects I've wasted my life on.
Heard of 'The 10 Commandments for dogs'? I wrote them and from the backlash from certain quarters, you'd have thought I was the Da Vinci Code fella!
I invented my own titanic text language (it sunk without a trace)
Pity me, No Place, Gobblers Knob, Wetwang ..... I also visited some of the more bizarre named places around the UK and beyond.
I’ve enraged Russians in the Arctic Circle and corrupted Cowgirls in New Orleans…and more, much more.
I decided to release my book into the wild as it will give some people an opportunity to try reading something that they wouldn’t normally read…it’s the karma of literature...and who knows where the book will end up!
Each time someone finds the book, they are invited to log onto the BookCrossing website and leave a comment about the book. I get my kick out of hearing how it’s made people you can’t put a price on a good belly laugh!
Don’t buy this book…find it!”
There are more details about Bookcrossing on John’s website
Deleted by Mod as link is to advert for book!!
Ahhhhhh... makes sense now...
yep, makes perfect sense....
sounds like fun too...
I wouldnt mind reading that book, sounds not bad
Sounds good! What a great idea, and at the price of books today, if it encourages more people to read, then thats even better. smile
oh..and he discovers the joys of dogging too apparently!
What an excellent idea

Don't tell her how it ends! lol
Heard of it last year via my mate who's left one a couple of times. Seen the site, but don't really read enough to make it as a proper bookcrosser. Reminds me I should check up again see if there's any in the neighbourhood.

is releasing books back into the wild after domesticating then not dangerous
was that your copy of fiesta i found in macky dees dewi ?
I'll be off then bolt
I'll have that copy of JUGS thank you!
..and as for is it risky releasing them into the wild after you have domesticated them...I think it goes along the lines of...if you love them let them go!
( well....I don't know what that really means either )
Isn't it better to let them go rather than coming down one morning to find your books sitting by the back door with a red checked hanky on a stick over their booky shoulders?
wink
