Just occured to me earlier when chatting to a gf.
I said, I'd been had to be dragged kicking and screaming to get a cervical smear recently, cause I didn't fancy someone I didn't know peering at me bits!
FFS, how ridiculous is that, when you consider I enjoy swinging, or is it just me? dunno
I know how you feel.. I'm already in a panic because I know my doctor will want to check 'down there' 6 wks after the baby is born.. Just the thought of it makes me feel physically sick!! However if anyone off here fancied checking 'down there' then I wouldn't bat an eyelid!! dunno
Well I know what you mean, and yes its odd how we classify things differently like that, BUT KcKat im so glad you went!!
I had mine recently and YES they have found some abnormalities AGAIN, so im off to the hospital soon for a Colposcopy confused Funny, ive closed it off in my mind at the moment and apart from my hubby and 1 very close friend, ive not told anyone cos im worried. Its probably nothing and is very very common, just not something ive experienced before. Just goes to show how important is it thou :?

Well ok - maybe normal is not quite the word ;)
Hmmmmmmmm. I'm with you on this one girls.
When I was seen by a lady quack in a hospital some years back 'cos I had a slightly swollen bollock I was really worried that I might get an erection when she........er.........handled me.
Did I fuck!!

I had my appointment with the old duck lips this week and have been growing some thatch for the last three weeks just so I appear somewhat normal. Fred just laughed and said I bet they've seen it all.
Well they aint seen mine in it's naked state redface
Got home and shaved it all off again, only another three years till I have to do it all again.

totally agree
only thing i can think of is when swinging the guy/girl going down on you wants to! and you know if you are lucky you are going to be pleasured.:rascal:
But with the doc.........well unless they are a pervert, its a job to them, then don't get turned on, and they prefer giving pain to pleasure.
confused
sadly im one of these people who isnt bothered by needles / check up, sorry i dont mean to be like that

I've got the solution. Try and get your doctor to become a swinger. That way he can give you a check-up anytime, without you feeling redface
Well .... I will urge all females to go and get theirs done! I know it's an undignified procedure but it saves so many lives ~ for 10 minutes discomfort.
I've had the Colposcopy done today and had abnormal cells found and so the biopsies have been done ... I'm concerned but not overly worried as I personally think it's scar tissue from having my children (but then what do i know).
If you haven't had a smear in the last 4 years ... book in with the nurse to get one done.
It's one of the best things you can do to protect yourself ....

Don't worry, bad news travels fast. It is amazing how quickly your GP/hospital will write to you when something's wrong.

Tania smackbottom that's so gonna give me an excuse not to ring!!!
At a previous point in my life i worked within a busy maternity unit. Due to the nature of my job, seeing women's "bits" was a necessary part of the job. To be totally honest with everyone, as part of our "job", a look to see that the bits were all in the right places, healthy and disease free was part of the job. We didn't really LOOK as such. The "bits" are checked in a very clinical way, and not in an intimate way at all.
I do remember going to my GP for my own smear testing and being really embarassed at the prospect. redface Thing is, i'd worked with the GP before, and I KNOW that your "bits" aren't part of a discussion pre/during/after the examination. At the end of the day, when you've seen one, you really have seen them all, as it is just part of the job.
Not sure if this will actually help anyone to stop worrying or being embarrassed or not, but hope so a wee bit.
Lots of love, hugs and kisses

Aint that the truth.
I was expecting it to take 6 weeks but the hospital got me in within 10 days   I was very freaked at the speed but also practically know that it's because I already had an appt with them.
I think that my problem with it stems back to when I had my first thorough check as a very scared and alone 14 yr old.. The doc then was really sleazy and really upset me... and my current doc reminds me of him. Might have to change surgeries before I have to go.

My GP is ready for retirement and sees my whole family. Really didn't fancy having him check me so I just went along to the local sexual health clinic.
It was open on sat mornings which was better for me and I saw a woman doctor. She had a cracking sense of humour, i however couldn't find mine lying back on a bed with me legs akimbo!!!! evil
Slight change of subject but sort of along the same lines.....
I need to go and get myself checked over for STD's (not that I think I've got anything but it's always best to be careful) and I was wondering exactly how it's done....is it a blood test or an internal?

Though you should ring up anyway. Letters get lost in post and phone-calls get neglected through admin errors. You need to chase these things up yourself, at the end of the day, it'll be you who may suffer. No need to panic about it though.

Depends, I think they use wet smears. But may take blood samples if you need a HIV test being done. But it's not very painfual or anything.
was in a+e early am. lost use of my left hand temporarily. you can't rely on nhs in my area. told them i am all alone and they let me go without advice on where to/how to seek support. all alone now, run out of food. life sucks when you are on y our own and nobody cares. not too relevant with smear tests but pain is clouding my mind. back to victorian times for me.

I don't know unfortunately about the tests for females, but for males it seemed like a slightly rough lollypop stick which the female doctor who saw me rubbed just on the inside of the penis, that and a quick visual inspection.
Unfortunately she was very business-like and appeared to have had her humour surgically removed. Since it was the first time I'd gone to an NHS sexual health clinic, I could have done with being put a bit more at ease. The blood test is optional if you wish to check for HIV/AIDs.
I choose to have it so I could know anyway, despite being petrified of needles. The nurse taking the blood was very pleasant, although I did bruse quite badly (I think I was very tense).
The tests came back either 1 or 2 weeks later (I forget), and I saw another female doctor who explained them to me - although again unfortunately not making me feel at ease, but the test were all clear (I didn't think I had anything but had wanted to be sure).
Just in case anyone mis-interprets this: I have no problem with female doctors (or male), but I like to be made to feel comfortable and as relaxed as you can be when they are discussing/fiddling with your intimate bits.

The do a vaginal and urethra swob for things like Clamydia and Gonxxxxxxx (can't spell it, but you know what I mean) as well as a blood test.
The clinic I go to insist you wait 13 weeks after unprotected sex before they'll do the aids and hep blood test.

Well as a bloke (& therefore not actually a woman rolleyes ), the doc took a couple of swabs from the end of my willy, & the nurse took a blood sample. Presumably it is very similar for a woman. Very wise to go & get checked periodically.

Yes, thank you, I am OK now. The Social Services took 3 weeks to respond to my call for help and then said that they really could not help. What a surprise, eh? They suggested I pay £14 an hour to an agency to get someone to help me at home. Yeah, right, like money is dripping off my pockets! rolleyes
