Dreams were mentioned today on another thread, which got me pondering about how they relate to our conscious thinking and also how they make us feel the next day.
Often dreams can be incomprehensible - not seeming to relate to reality but sometimes they can be obviously triggered by day to day things and they can be quite disturbing too.
When this happens they can prey on our minds with fear that can be irrational but all too real. Have you ever spent a whole day under a cloud because of a dream? I know I have.
Sometimes swinging can be quite an emotional experience and I'm sure is a rich source of things that can be the subject of dreams - both positive and fearful.
Does anyone else agree?

I use to dream about being chased by lots of women, and trying to get away from them by flying, but i could never get off the ground properly and it was all in slow motion....i was a teenager when these dreams happened by the way!
I had a dream once....about a girl i had never met.....but very real in my dream, when i woke up i was devasted that it was all a dream and that the girl was not real...i was really heart broken!....again i was a teenager!

Yes, I agree.
Haven't slept much the last couple of nights though, so haven't had any dreams.

I had an awful dream last night - and yes, it's left me with a real cloud over my head today. I feel it's sent me back to similar obscure terrors I had last year.......
When my cousin died in March last year, it left me reeling, one big impact it had was on broken nights sleep, nightmares and a severe terror of my own mortality.
They say you dream stuff so you can put it into emotional compartments. So when you wake, emotionally, your brain has compartmentalised different scanarios......... Unfortunately, the dream has reopened a compartment that I just can't deal with, either logically or emotionally ........... so I wonder if I've developed almost a phobia dunno
But then, can you get counselling to help deal with something like this? :dunno: Not really a subject that you can talk about and make people feel better about? :dunno:

sounds more like a fantasy than a dream...
lol
Its true.....but they were chasing me not because they were lusting after me....but because they were angry with me!
I rarely get enough REM sleep, so haven't dreamed much lately.....But my sleep patterns are better now my situation is more stable lol
i have had a dream so real that when i woke up i could actually see the person standing in my room, that freaked me out.
i have also had nightmares that have woken me up and shook me so badly i havent dared to go back to sleep in case it starts again
there is also a dream that makes me wake up but when i do, i physically cant move and it feels like something is laid on top of me holding me down, this really scares me
luckily these dreams are quite infrequent.

Well, I had an interesting dream about Stevie Nicks once - does that count :dunno:
There was lots of leather and lace and she tied me up in chains and told me lots of lies.
Apparently thunder only happens when the fireflies go to sleep, which I know is a fib, because I saw the storm when her mate Rhiannon walked into the room wearing nothing but crimson and clover and opened a window.
Here was me, getting all exited with two women in the room and all they talked about was the female witch Rhiannon was seeing.
Finally things started to get going, but came to an abrupt end when the door smashed open and in trotted Roland the Rhino, my what a huge tusk you have mentions Stevie ........
It was at this point I awoke to discover it was Monday Morning and I was feeling a little green
Apparently you cannot snore and dream at the same time, it's a medical impossibility........

I'm usually good at remembering my dreams so I know that a lot of them relate to my day to day life if something specific is preying on my mind. I don't believe all this about your dreams meaning something.
Recently though I've had a few very disturbing dreams, can't remember the exact details from some of them and the others I'm trying hard to forget  All I know is I've woken crying and it's put me in a very sombre mood for the rest of the day. I know it WAS only a dream but the events were quite upsetting.
Right now, I'd give anything to be able to sleep hence the posting at stupid o'clock sad

That would account for why Jon seldom dreams then :lol2:

Well last night I dreamt about having sex with a woman I've never seen before, we were at an airport to start with and she was sitting on a bean bag. confused
Then I was in a churchy wooded area and I saw a camera-man get killed by a grenade, then the murderer threw another grenade near me, I ran to pick it up (to throw it away) but was too slow, as it exploded at my feet I though "Oh no!".
Then I was in a very large strange house, going from room to room but trying not to wake people up as I opened and closed doors.
That will teach me to watch Trial & Retribution whilst drinking wine and eating cheese :!:
I feel like I'm missing out here because I hardly ever dream, a couple of times a year is all I can manage sad
I can't eat cheese or chocolate late at night though. If I do happen to remember a dream, it would be fairly nasty and probably involve the kids :(
The dreams I do have are usually related to something that is happening in my day to day life confused

Be careful what you wish for Dawn!
I remember my dreams 5 nights out of 7 at least. It's bloody tiring when you feel you have a vivid second life.
Every few months I have about 4 or 5 days where my dreams are just like the day I've just experienced but slightly warped, it can actually get confusing as sometimes you are unsure what is a real memory and what isn't until you stop a moment and think back.
Sleep disorder? Moi? confused

I've woken myself up crying quite a few times too and I agree, it does affect the rest of your day confused
I had a dream last week and in it Lairdy was being really horrible to me  When I woke up, it felt so real that I could hardly speak to him without getting really annoyed lol
I did tell him about it so that he knew why he was getting a hard time! wink
Its the dreams I have that then come true that are the most fascinating! And the ones where I dream about an event that is going on in someones life (that I have no way of knowing about) only to find out shortly afterwards that I was spot on in what I saw! smile This happened to me again just the other day.

Earthy, this is quite a common phenomenon called "sleep paralysis" and has a purely physical cause. I have had this happen to me quite a few times, less in the past few years though. This link explains it better than I can:

....and more comprehensively:
some people close to me have bad dreams and this is a site i found usefull, maybe some of you will too.

Bad dreams can be very emotional and play a big part in peoples day to day lifes so a big kiss to all

Thanks for the link, swingfunfcpl. That's one of the more sensible websites on the topic - some others are pretty odd and not for the gullible.
Mike.
When I was at college I used to get loads of anxiety dreams.
Several times dreamt I had forgotten my assignment and that it had to be handed in that day, leading to panic and fear. Bizarre cos I live about 10 minutes drive from the college so I could've gone home and got it and the lecturers didn't care whether work was handed in late or not as long as they got it confused
Everyone dreams - but not all of us remember.
I have had every form if insomnia and sleep disturbance known to mankind.
i dream graphic, epic, colourful sagas that you could write a screenplay from. The weird stuff is justified and explained within the dream.
I can wake up and slip back into the same dream if i nod off again.
I am on occasions, aware that I am dreaming - "lucid" - but I have yet to manage to control the dream.
My dreams affect my mood for the rest of the day.
I have recurring nightmares.
I talk and cry and fight in my sleep but rarely have sex-dreams.
As far as I am aware, i don't sleep walk anymore. i hope not anyway, it's dangerous.
i studied dreaming and sleep patterns a little for a project i did aaaaaaages ago. It's very interesting and it does all make sense if you know enough about it.
cool
I had a strange one the other night.
I was easing Angelica's knots - the ones in her shoulders for those whose minds were wandering. We were both naked and I was standing behind her.
I became aware that there was a man sitting in the chair in the corner - also naked.
I then needed to have my back stretched by arching backwards and Angelica said she couldn't do that. So the fella jumped up and bent forward over the bed and made an arch for me to lie back to back on.
After I was stretched (my back!!! rolleyes ) I stood up and observed that we both had an erection.
Strange thing is - it didn't feel erotic at all. I'm straight so I really can't explain any connotations.

My friend is a great believer in analysing dreams, she has a few dream books. When I was younger I had a dream that I was always arriving at school buck naked and having to run round like that all day, it was horrible. Apparently it meant I was quite conscious about my body and didn't like attention drawn to myself (the opposite to my dream)...
now me thinks it was a sign of what I was getting into in my adult like..

That analysis seems logical. Most near adults are very conscious of their bodies.
Oooh one other thing I remember from my dream is that I got the impression that he guy didn't make to offer for my benefit - it was to impress Angelica.
.
I used to (fingers crossed) have a recurring dream which would really upset me.
We would be at a campsite near Longleat. An escaped lion would be prowling around the tents. The kids would always be in two different locations, and the long & short of it would be that I could only save one pair of them- the crux was I had to choose.
Never remember actually choosing, but frequently woke replaying the scenario & trying to decide what I would do- bloody 'orrid! sad
