With christmas approaching and the party season about to start, alot of people will be having a drink. I would ask you all to make sure you get a cab home after a drink. I work in a cab office and here is a tip for you; if you are going out for the evening and get a cab there, ask the driver for his mobile number and give him a deposit and he will come and get you later in the evening, that way you won't have to worrie about getting a cab later.
A very good friend of mine was killed 2 weeks ago by a drink driver, my mate had only been married for 6 months and had just moved into a new house and found out his wife is pregnant.
Don't drink and drive, it's not worth the pain you can cause.
Go to the link below;
I can only add if you can not get someone to pick you up stay over.
you might think it's agood idea at the time to drink and drive.....it isn't it's the biggest mistake you can make...
you might think ..i won't get pulled...you will...then you can say good bye to your license and possibly your job...
a taxi might seem expensive at the time...in the long run, the taxi is cheap.....
don't ruin someones life by drinking and driving....it really isn't worth it......
WENT TO A PARTY, MUM
I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom
So I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.
I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming, Mom
Something I expected least.
Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.
My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.
I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.
So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave,
And when I go to heaven,
Put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"
So I love you and good-bye.
That should be turned in to a poster or somthing if you dont mind the laird i'll would like to copy it and email to my friends
When I lived oop norf my housemate worked at a bar all night then used to drive home pissed - very pissed. After several occasions I told him if he did it again I would call the police, he did it again and I did call the police. confused
It didn't turn out as bad as it could have done, we are still good friends.

But how many of us would do the same thing to a close friend?
But then... how many friends do we know who are willing to put ourlives at risk? :?

I know it may seem harsh but statistically it's not usually the drink driver that get's killed.
What would I rather have on my conshience.... someboy getting run over by my friend (who is breaking the law) because I didn't have the guts to do the right thing. Or have my friend be miffed at me for a while?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect but sometimes there is a right and wrong thing to do.

I would be the first to stand up & say I'm far off from being perfect... & the only way things are gonna change is by US ALL setting an example
Kiss you have done something I wish I had the guts to do last year!
Too many times people have turned a blind eye saying I will be more moralistic next time... I cant get a cab this hour... it's only just down the road... myriads of excuses just to justify jumping in that drivers or passenger seat because its 'convenient'
I myself know I'm gonna havta make a concerted effort NOT to condone such behaviour from anyone I know.
We have Designated Drivers each time we have a lads night out, especially since one of the guys got lucky & was prosecuted last year - lucky coz the problem was dealt with before any one else became involved.
We do have a Nanny State... sometimes for a damn good reason...
Lets all endeavour to do our bit to show we can be trusted with a moral sense of duty.
I did the right thing that time - but when I was younger I got into cars where I knew the person had been drinking. But it is something that I feel very strongly about now I'm older.
I've seen the after effects of RTAs when I worked on a Trauma ward and believe me, it's not a pretty sight.
To see an 18 year old with a broken neck having a halo jacket screwed into their head and having to wear it for months is enough to put anyone off drink driving. That same 18 year old ( the driver ) also had a broken leg, arm and 3 cracked ribs, spent 18 months in physio then had to be told that his 17 year old girlfriend died at the scene after she was crushed by the back seat passenger, who also suffered a broken arm and leg.
Now, do you REALLY want a pint?
I am so sorry to hear about your friend and other's stories too. I can't drive so am never in the position but hubby does and wont even touch a single drop if he's out and driving so I am lucky. He saw someone kiled in an accident once and he was first on the scene so would never do it.
It's also important to be aware of you own capabilities. It is very possible to be below the legal blood alcohol level, but for your concentration to be impaired (depending on wether you have eaten, mood etc).
Personally I have found that on occascion, even half a pint of lager, or a small glass of wine has made me feel tipsy........ for this reason I never get behind the wheel of a car if I've had a drink. I certainly wouldn't plan to have a drink if I know I'm going to need to drive shortly afterwards, as even if I have the smallest drink, I cannot be certain that it won't make me feel drunk - even if medically I'm not.

Precisely why I think there shouldn't be a maximum you could drink before being over the limit to drive. It should be no alcohol AT ALL! Any amount of booze could impair your concentration and reactions so if you are driving don't drink at all. Taxis may be expensive ( in Cardiff they are horrendously overpriced ) but it's cheaper than losing your licence, your job or even your life

I agree Sassy. If you are going to drive, don't drink, not even one.
I don't drive myself, but neither I or my other half drink at all, ever, so we are usually the taxi service for nights out.
I I agree maybe if some off these people realise that after they have the RTC it make our job realy difficult in the O.R and most of the time HALOs and EX fix's get put on under local or sedation cause a GA would be to dangerous

every year he fly s pissed as a newt and drives.
he allways gets to where he is going,
and never yet had a bad accident...
i am going to name and shame him..................
father christmas.............................
My step auntie was ran over on a zebra crossing with a new baby in her pram. She was also drunk but thats not the point, a drink driver killed her (the baby was unharmed).
My point is its not safe to drink drive OR walk the streets drunk!
