I've been driving for 4 years now and realised a cpl of months ago I could drive til whatever year it says but then noticed an expiry date on it and thought eh? I didn't realise u had to pay to renew it.
Thanx for that!
Can I go a bit off topic here? I've informed the DVLA that I've moved twice since moving out of my mam's house. My correct address is on my licence. However, my tax renewal thing always gets sent to my mam's address. Why's that?

thanks for this thread we wasnt aware of it, luckly I have got another 5 years before having to renew
xx
i got a letter from the dvla just this morning about renewing my photo id i too didnt realise they expire after 10 yrs (thas the problem with smallprint tis always too fekkin small) jus like the bit at the bottom of the letter where it says it'll cost you to renew it.
Now i'm all for replacing the photograph n all that as in 10 yrs we all change n i look nothing like i did when i was 29 but why on earth should we have to pay the best part of £20 quid to do it?
Just another bloody way of getting money out of us!!!
another good reason why I have kept my old style licence. Still legal and still goes on until I'm 65!
The DVLA has already commenced preparation for the recall of all remaining paper licences. They will start doing so next year, commencing with the people whose licence will not need renewing through age within 10 years. It is a requirement of the EU that all member states have driving licences which have the photograph of holders.
