nothing surprises me these days rotflmao
But personally I would like to see compulsery retests after 20years, that would free up the roads no end and maybe in the future improve overall driving skills.
I've been driving for 4 years now and realised a cpl of months ago I could drive til whatever year it says but then noticed an expiry date on it and thought eh? I didn't realise u had to pay to renew it.
Thanx for that!
Can I go a bit off topic here? I've informed the DVLA that I've moved twice since moving out of my mam's house. My correct address is on my licence. However, my tax renewal thing always gets sent to my mam's address. Why's that?

Because your car is still registered at the old address, different department.
I would get it changed asap as I think its illegal, but happy to be proved wrong.

Oh is it? I don't want to hijack this thread but if anyone could PM us as how to tell the car tax ppl a change of address, I'd be really grateful! thanx! And ty Wineman! xx
Doesn't affect me, I'm on a 3 year licence and the DVLA just automatically send me one smile
I just let those buggers do the work for a change :)
Actually the reasoning behind this renewal (supposedly to update the photo) just isn't true. I have to renew my license every 3 years because of medical issues (yes I'm actually blind). My license was renewed in 2007 and is due again in 2010 BUT I have had the license since 1990 and have had the same photo on it since then. They just take the same photo from their records and use it again. I actually did try to update my photo 1 year as the one on it is truly dreadful and really doesnt look anything like me, but all that happened was that I lost the photo I sent in and when I queried why it wasn't used I was told that I had to fill out form XYZ in triplicate and send them loadsa money. I declined. mad It's purely another way to get more money out of you in a form of tax.

Fill-in section 6 on your V5 registration document, and send it off.

Are we really that dumb to realise that the people in charge of this, decided to keep this one quite?
Come on peeps more money in the coffers, and another excuse to fleece the motorist. mad
thanks for this thread we wasnt aware of it, luckly I have got another 5 years before having to renew
xx
i got a letter from the dvla just this morning about renewing my photo id i too didnt realise they expire after 10 yrs (thas the problem with smallprint tis always too fekkin small) jus like the bit at the bottom of the letter where it says it'll cost you to renew it.
Now i'm all for replacing the photograph n all that as in 10 yrs we all change n i look nothing like i did when i was 29 but why on earth should we have to pay the best part of £20 quid to do it?
Just another bloody way of getting money out of us!!!
another good reason why I have kept my old style licence. Still legal and still goes on until I'm 65!

as long as you don't move
indeed!
Happy where we are at the moment but who knows what will come in the future. maybe I should have put that I'll kepp it as long as I can. lol
The DVLA has already commenced preparation for the recall of all remaining paper licences. They will start doing so next year, commencing with the people whose licence will not need renewing through age within 10 years. It is a requirement of the EU that all member states have driving licences which have the photograph of holders.
