I recently put an item for sale on eBay. A couple of days later, I got an email from eBay??? that a fellow member wanted to ask me (the seller) a question. The question was, " how much would it cost to ship the item you have for sale, The golf Professional Assistant, to Arizona" This was not the item I had for sale, and thinking that this was a mistake by the sender, I clicked on the reply button to say, that I did not have this item for sale. BIG,BIG, FUCKING MISTAKE ( sorry about that, read on and you will find out why ). What happened next is a bit of a blur. My PC froze up. I rebooted, tried to find the item he wanted, using the eBay,Reference No, and guess what, no such item. Tried to log into eBay, and my Login and Password were not acceptable/not valid. Emailed eBay??? they want ALL my security details, to reinstate my a/c, and also my PayPal details. By this time alarm bells were more than ringing. I tried using the PC to access other sites I use, and it was like watching paint dry. Got a friend in to try and sort it out, and there seems to be a block which will not let him in to try and clean my system. Tried contacting eBay, but I'm not sure if I'm on eBay or not. My PC is 5 years old, and was in need of upgrading/renewing, but now I have deceided to scrap the PC, and replace it. So if you get an enquirey about something you dont have for sale DONT try to be helpful and friendly. DONT open it, DONT reply, DELETE it, its cost me dear for doing just that.

I have tried that, but this is their reply,
We have suspended your a/c, due to security issues, and allocated you a new Password and security question, and answer. Because you will not know the answer to this new security question, enter your Login ID and click 'forgotten password' and we will send you by email your new security question, the answer, and your new password. Confused ? so am I so I forwarded their reply to spof@ebay and they said it was genuine, as they had sent it, and to do as I was told in as many words. This I did and guess what no email. I have changed my Paypal Details now, so that if they buy anything on eBay using my details, they cannot ? pay for it using Paypal ( I hope ).

I will be keeping a look out for any now. Im always using ebay
Hi
I have used ebay for many many years and I am so sick of gettting emails from obvious fraudsters trying to get my login and password information from me. This seems to happen on a weekly basis and they are so convinving sometimes you just don't know whether they are real or not.
I have decided from now on that if I ever receive anything from ebay via email I am just going to ingore it....so if they do genuinly send me something then I am buggered!
I have contacted them before via email to complain but as usual got no response.
Thanks for the tip though!
xx
Just got an e-Bay top tips e-mail, offering me the chance to download a toolbar, that has a section that is green on e-Bay areas, but goes red on e-bay scammers - what I would like to know is, is it kosher? And if it is, would anyone like me to forward the e-mail on to you?
Just so you know there is a way to check if the link you are trying to click is valid. I mean you all know the url to the paypal is has at the start dont you. Hover you mouse over the little link in the email and look at the bottom of the winodow. It will show, mayby briefly, the address it is going to open (look at the moment where done is on the screen to this post at the bottom left, thats where it shows, the status bar). You will be able to tell for yourself if its good or fake. Most people know this allready, well now you do.
Hi all,
Old hand at the Ebay lark here, I joined up in 1998.
Sad to say the Ebay teams aren't great at sorting this type of problem; your best bet - if in ANY doubt - hit the community boards, they have a wealth of information and most of the regulars are a friendly helpful bunch.
If you visit the Round Table you will see a thread dedicated to scam emails, might be worth reading if you have concerns.
Standard Ebay policy when you get a 'spoof' email : You forward the suspect email complete with headers to the email addy listed in the above mentioned thread. Ebay will email you with a standard blurb telling you they are investigating. Then you get another standard blurb telling you yes, it is a spoof and listing various tips on safe trading.
ID theft is on the increase, clever buggers these scammers. I fell foul of one and it cost me my original id and 800+ feedback I been carefully building up. All I did was take an extended leave away from my computer (3 months in USA) and when I got home, went to list some stuff and couldn't get in to my account. Lord knows how/where the scammers got my details from as I had NOT replied to any dumb emails.
Any way, like I said before, pop along to the community and have a read of the threads to find shed loads of experiences and advice.
Hope this is of use to folks.

Another handy tip for general PC and account safety....... A lot of scammers use password hacks and some of these go through all possible combinations, or some people use common sense to get your password so try using a word from another language, or something as unenglish as possible.
My passwords are all in Welsh after losing my account to a hacker and I've not had any problems since. (I'm not trying to advocate the use of Welsh btw smile )
I regret ever using Ebay.... I've had loads of problems since...spam, spoof messages , PC freezing.
Try looking at their privacy policy mad sad :!: confused:
we use ebay quite alot
but run an apple mac so dont suffer so much from virus etc
there is a site dedicated to paypal called
that is interesting
