I don't know how far outside your box this would be (so to speak, ahem) but what about 'Classical'. One of my favourites is Mars from the Planets. It starts with a deep, almost disturbing, bass rythm that you feel more than hear, then it builds into a powerful musical picture of struggle, power, war. It's also incredibly musical - not all clashes and bangs like some can be.

You can do a lot worse than film music - John Barry (his On The Beyondness of Things is awasome even though it was never used for a film), Hans Zimmer (Gladiator and many others). For lighter music, Howard Goodall has produced acres of gorgeousness.

The Irrepressibles.
Great new British talent. An orchestra with an amazing vocalist & clever, haunting arrangements. First album released yesterday.

Is just a bloke that writes songs and stuff. He is I suspect right up your alley. Let me know if you would like me to do you a reel to reel or cassette tape. Usually I would charge a BJ but given geography and time constraints a picture of your smile will do.

you tubed them,ty,Reminded me of someone else, but in a gd way,may well find somemore and listen the dowmload kiss
If you check them out on myspace, a lot of tracks are on there and you can get a feel for them that way.
The guy on vocals is often compared to Antony & the Johnsons.
While I think about music, what about The Heritage Orchestra, IAMX or The Last Shadow Puppets? I love them all... but then my taste is very varied.

Today I'll mostly be listening to
Gaslight Anthem
Joe D'urso
with the addition of the 'Men without women' album by Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul', Procol Harum's 'An Old English dream' and 'Wall street Blues' and probably, since there's a Y in the day, the Manic Street Preachers...

Rage Wilkinson and the dilated Cervix
Benny Papsworth and his amazing disembowelled elephant.
I'm sorry. I just feel left out because the only one I've heard of on this thread are the Manic Street Preachers and I've just realised I am very uncool and not down with the kids anymore.

Absolutely. Well - I can do Procul Harum too. In fact I remember asking our Latin teacher what it meant and it's nonsense.
Come and sit quivering in the corner with me Res. :rascal:

Yeah! I'll bring the Barry Manilow t-shirts, you get the Elton John specs...
I've heard of Procul Harem too. Their songs made less sense than their group name.

I think I beat you for uncoolness and undownness with the kids.
Joe D'urso is a guy from New Jersey who tours over here - good singer songwriter stuff.
Gaslight Anthem are from Red Bank New Jersey and are Bruce Springsteen's favourite band of the moment - he often appears on stage with them.
Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul were a nineteen eighties spinoff from the Asbury Jukes, led by Springsteen's guitar player, Steve 'I'm also in the Sopranos' Van Zandt.
The Procol Harum track 'An Old English Dream' is based ona W H Auden poem - how uncool is that?
And the Manics are just the Manics.

Are you from NJ or just a Springsteen fan?
It's just I have family in them parts... Asbury Park, Red Bank, Neptune City etc etc
