Some people only use the forum, some only use the chatroom and others use both.
I am one of the latter. This is so I can enjoy more of this site. What amuses me though, is that I watch either forum regulars go into the chatroom and vice versa, and get upset with the humour of the users in there.
This results in people thinking they are getting picked on. Just because they are regulars in the forum/chatroom they think they have a right to say what they want and get upset when forum or chatroom users give them advice. It makes me smile within.........watching the ego bump and then moan in either the forum/chatroom about how nasty the other users are.
Just because you are a regular in the cafe, dogging section or chatroom..........you still need to take time to see what other users are like before jumping to conclusions about them.
The majority of the users on this site are great people. It just takes time to realise their humour and way of thinking. So if you open the door and change rooms for a short while, take time to get to know the users before judging them.

I completely agree with you there Dave.
There are rules for all methods of communication. If there wasn't knowbody would be able to understand each other. I believe that these rules are often accompanied with a mind set or attitude which can be very different from site to site.
Like you stated each of the site's here are different and because of this one should be expectant to understand one will be treated as a 'newbie' until one has the grasp of the unspoken rules first.
I suppose the biggest difference between the chatroom and forum is speed of communication. If you are used to the fast paced quick fire questions and answers then patience and understanding of the different surroundings in the Forum would be the very first obsticle to overcome.
As I am not a chatroom user this is only a guess. Forum members looking to get into the chatroom will find that the most 'helpful' users will be the chat ops. This is because the chat is so fast paced your question may get missed or cast asside by the other users.
Not sure why there are so many differences but Dave is correct in pointing them out.

Being someone who just browses and occasionaly posts, I don't know anyone in particular you may be referring to.

As many will know I am a forum user that wanders in to the chatroom all the time rolleyes

You do get people presuming they will fit straight in and everyone will know them when they walk into the chatroom purely because they are known on the forum. That also works the other way around and long standing chatroom users don't post on the forum :shock:
Its almost like walking into the pub next door to your local. A few people spill over and use two places but more often, they only use one place.

I use both chat room (not as frequent at the moment as I would like) and forum, both have people that are unique to that venue. On the whole the people are the same with the same sort of humour and outlook but the change in the groundrules can make things seem different. the speed in the chatroom is amazing at trimes, even for somebody like myself who is used to IRC I find that the chatroom can move so fast its almost impossible to keep up without knowing a few tricks.
Only 2 things really tho are needed to enjoy your time in the chatroom, observation of the prime directive...." Never PM without asking first " , and knowing that you will likely lose track several times until you acclimatise to the speed of the room which changes wildly confused

once upon a time, i was a reasonably well known chatroom user. didn't even know the forums were here. and then i sorta flounced out of the room ((( rolleyes

))) and retreated to the cafe, which was a good move as it turned out, and suited my completely pointless, rambling stylee, but the thing was noone had a bloody clue who the hell i was! :lol2: didn't realise that at the time, and just kinda barged in thinking all the same people would be here too, but had to start all over again, and get a feel for the forum too. very different places, and very different bouncing off people. i'm too slow these days for the room, but probably the main difference is that any comment in the chatroom is gone and forgotten in seconds. here it stays FOREVER! :shock: :roll: :lol2:

I use the chatroom and the forum (although i don't post very often) When i'm in the chatroom i just talk pish and bollocks. Got chatting once to a guy from Leeds who communicated on the same wave length as me. When i'm in the forum, i just talk pish and bollocks too, but just go on a bit really.
All in all, i just talk pish and bollocks everywhere i go. Works for me. lol

Funny though - does anybody else agree - I think it's the same in real life? At the Munches there is - contradict me please - a visible gap between the Cafe and the Chatroom attendees. Sometimes I've felt that there are two Swinging Heavens. (But then, life couldn't be that good. Could it?)
