Reading through the majority of posts since joining I have noticed that there are a lot of different emoticons than what is to the left when replying or posting a new topic. Can people please advise how to get these.
Thanks

If you click on 'View more emoticons', there are loads in another window which will pop up.
At the bottom of of 20 emoticons on the left there is some large blue text that says,
Veiw more Emoticons
Should we ask Mark to make it a little more obvious?
Chris
Also a lot of them are taken from other websites. You have to register for a lot of them though and I'm secptical about the users agreement on them (hidden programs). You can also create your own and suggest them if there any good.
And some of the really fancy ones are actually done by links to gifs in other sites such as smiley central.
If you use the quote button - you can see the decode or the url.

I would not recommned downloading smiley central. It is full of spyware, automatically installs its own toolbar, and is generally more trouble than it is worth.

I haven't got it either Mike. wink
Just pointing out where some of the fancy ones come from.
I have used websmileys. Is there the same risk of spyware on this site?

If it ask you if you want to install something, then yes there is that risk.

Just to play devil's thingy for a minute.
I use smileycentral a lot, and haven't had any bother.
When I installed it, I told it (?) not to install the toolbar.
BUT - I dohave the anti this that and the other programmes running. Have them - don't understand them, but have them
If you want to make your own you will need some image editing software, personally I use fireworks, but paintshop pro is just as good and cheaper. Finally if you find a pic you want to include in a post, and have rights to use then imagshack a good way to get them on the net so you can use them.
This includes a smiley you download to your PC. You can find it at:
Point it at the pic, press Host It, then use the first of the offered for forum links. Best way is to upload from another window, then copy to the forum, and finally check you took the right one by pressing preview. That way if it does not show you can try one of the alternate offered scripts.

Fair enough dambuster, if it seems okay, keep it by all means - i suppose it's okay for someone who knows how to deal with it, but there are several warnings about it on techie websites, e.g.:

It installed its own toolbar on my comp, and I had a devil of a job to find out how to put my usual toolbar back. There can also be problems with the other things get installed with it, without the user being informed. I got rid of it after a day.
