With the recent changes to the site, we now have 3 different sets of emoticons (chatroom / forum / IM).
The one's in the Chatroom and IM are quite basic and usually don't reflect what I'm looking for when I need one.
They're not of the same text short-cut eg: Sad Face in the forum is : sad : in the chatroom it's : -( and in the IM we have x-( .
Question here is:-
1 - Can we not have one unified set of emoticons?
2 - What would be on your list of favourite emoticons?
So, on the grounds that there is not enough selection in Chat/IM and far too many in the forum, he's my Top 20
biggrin worship  :small-print:
:censored: :welcome: bolt banghead :bs:
 (but the chatroom version 'heart') innocent :java (chatroom version)
:shades (chatroom version) poke  :cry (chatroom version) loon rotflmao :rude:
What's in your top 20?
I quite like (and regularly use) :rascal: smackbottom :giggle:  :eeek: redface lol ;) dunno passionkiss innocent :therethere: rolleyes  :bounce:  and :smug:
I should probably use the following more often :gagged:  :censored:
Think that's 20. I rarely use the chat rooms these days so I have no idea which emotes survived the last re-jig.
I think having a common shortcut across all areas would be a great idea. I'm not convinced we'd need all of the forum emoticons in chat/IM as it's a more immediate form of typing and we may end up spending a huge amount of time trying to find just the right icon only to find the moment has passed.
We would be limited to what can be displayed in chat and on IM as you need to bear in mind that the main part of the emoticon would need to fit into a single line of text and quite a few of the ones used in the forum are larger than that.
Here's a complete list of what's available in chat if it helps (sorry, no animations):
I only really use the Forum range and I must say we are spoilt for choice for Emoticons - thanks to the management in general, but there are some of them that I don't understand, must be that I have lead a sheltered life (one bus shelter to the next) - for example some only have marks rather than words to describe them such as:
smile sad
Plim
Funny you should mention this as I was only thinking the same thing the other day. Dont really use chat that much or PM to be honest. Dont think I need that many for the PM's I do send. In the forum however after 1500+ posts was getting a little bored of them and just the other day started to nick emoticons from other places using the same method as linking to pictures
I like this one (although I don't ever get to use it):

These I use far too often.... usually together:

Remembered a post from way back in the mists of time on the subject of unused Emotcons. Hunted it out, and it still makes me laugh.

There's a broken link in there to the other memorable thread. ;-)
