F1 is like everything else - it's GLOBAL and costs a lot of money some of which is justified by the research aspect and some by the joy.
- but it's not like the old days, except for the improved safety of course.
Plim
i love it and hope Button and Hamilton have a good season and end up joint championship leaders smile
and that MS does rubbish :)
what a lovely mothers day (for me) with the first F1 race of the season on it :)
An interesting start to the season..........
No bloody fuel stops?
They continue to introduce new rules, that really just make it even more boring than it already is.
Round and round and round and round..............in circles. They do not even stop now either, well except for tyres.

So are the races now shorter? Or do they race until they run out of fuel then get out and push the car for the last few laps? That would be interesting lol
well such an anticipated start turned out to be a damp squid in my opinion sad
think we are going to have to wait till it comes back to Europe before we see the real cars.
Wow it really was a bore.
I cannot understand how the powers that be in FIA, can possibly believe the new rule changes, will make racing better.
At least they did overtake last year.
All the rules are just killing the sport to be honest.
i enjoyed it apart from one thing ...the winning team sad
I have mowed a small section of the lawn and will take my chair and sit and watch it grow when the next GP is on......Far more exciting....
I think the most exciting thing to happen this weekend is Lewis getting nicked on Friday night...
I do however hope to be proved wrong.....
It was a decent race yes but its a shame when it has to wait for the weather to make it so...
Well that was better, at least it was more over taking. well not by shuey he could not get past alguersuari in the torro rosso rotflmao

Which in reality only serves to highlight the problems in F1 today....
Too much reliance on Aero grip....And designing a car that produces "dirty air" ....
It should be massively reduced and the emphasis put on mechanical grip....

I quite agree about the aerodynamic influence on the track, and you'll have to colour me naive, but I really dont think the teams have time to be designing cars that produce "dirty air" on purpose. It's a by-product of the aerodynamic downforce created by the wings etc.
The BBC boys did a great interview with one of the team principles this weekend about the recent rule changes and how it hasn't had the desired effect of making the racing closer and spectator friendly - the upshot being that kneejerk reactions to the latest set of changes wont help as the teams will constantly be chasing their tales in an effort to stay ahead. Let the teams settle in to the new rules - they're rather clever chaps that will no doubt ome up with even more ways to create grip and bend the rules to their advantage.
Mechanical grip is the way forward (as you say!) so maybe there should be some kind of limit on the amount of downforce produced - however you generate it. I think you've got to be careful though as limiting the options the teams have will eventually produce a sport that is essentially a single design car which will greatly reduce the emphasis on the teams and potentially the interest in the sport.
I think I'll leave it to the FIA and just watch from the comfort of my sofa...

Personally knowing the former head of Aerodynamics at 2 front line F1 teams you can believe me when I say they do try to create as much dirty air as possible ;-)
you'd have thought with all the money involved, the rigourous training programmes for the drivers, and the countless hours of practice for pit crew, that they would have put a little more effort into the diet as well eh?
strange

The biggest problem with F1 is that you have two opposing thoughts going on at any time......
F1 is the pinnical of technical expertise and the drive is to be innovative, many of theadvances we see in everyday cars that we drive on the roads now have come from F1 design. The trouble is that many of these designs dont actually make good racing for spectators so there has to be a balance between innovitive design and exciting racing, that is one of the reasons why we have so many rule changes from one year to the next.
I have followed F1 for the last 30 years so know full well how things change, the trouble is technology moves so much faster these days that instead of changes being made from one year to the next they went to the next few races now its the next race.
If you inroduce things to make cars overtake more easily then you take away the very thing that keeps F1 the No 1 racing sport in the world, the advances in everyday motoring and the very reason car manufacturers enter the sport in the first place.
I do very much miss the 80's and watching real wheel to wheel racing but at what cost if we go back to far dunno
And it is raining for qually!

so am i the only one who thinks that after last year and again this year it's about time they changed the time of qualifying so they miss the rain?
whips

How about they just change the date so it doesn't clash with the end of the rainy season ...
Bad planning in my mind.....

Timing was deliberate to add a bit of spice to the race, but don't think they wanted this much rain

not a bad race all in all, a little confusing at time with the comentary not matching what we were viewing but i enjoyed it!
shame button couldn't have been closer though.

i got a great new app for my iphone that gives you live timings and where they are on the track and what position, so even if they are watching back markers, i know when someone pits or goes of the track or overtakes. its great

another Red Bull front row then in China...
Button & Hamilton on the third row in 5th & 6th... hmmm.
There may be trouble ahead.

oooh dear, another possible weather-call at the start for Shanghai.
no weaving you naughty boys!
lp
well... if you're not watching, you're missing it!
I think that's the phrase.
lp
weather-influenced, no doubt, but plenty of over-taking this time.
lp
I can live with that result.
Petrov looks rather interesting for future reference.
