Just wondering how people feel about using words/phrase like oh hell Jesus Christ Oh my god adding in that most versatile of expletives, fuck or fucking don;t of us here dont really blink an eye at these words really do we but if there are people who are offended by say using any of the terms in the title of the thread in the same way there would be outrage by minority/majority groups. Why then do we allow, or at the least not complain, in general the use of these words with christian connotations/associations? Personally i don't really give a toss for Christian ideology nor do I about most other religions or groups but somehow i seem to respect the idea of not using these words in association with them.
Odd really isn't it dontcha think?
i would never use his name in vain for many reasons some of these being imprinted into me when i was younger.... where i would get a slap across the head for using it so i always wince whenever i do use it my accident !
also being brought up in a catholic school makes me thing twice on using the words
but hey ho we all have our opinion on this one !
I must admit that i was once very much the same Gurl although I am worse as I get older! My mother would cringe and give me what for if she heard me sometimes. But it is odd how we perceive things in general and I think a lot of people are more sensitive to insulting things such as gay/ethnic/colour/ability rights and also the more new to Britain religions such as Hinduism than the traditional Christian religion.
All a load of fucking old bollocks if you ask me Losty.
If anyone wants to call me a faggot or anything else, feel free as I'm not easily offended... just don't get personal rotflmao
The edict not to "take God's name in vain" is absolutely NOTHING to do with not mentioning God (or Jehovah as is the given name - given by whom I wonder. His Mum?), and it doesn't even mean you're not allowed to use it as an expletive.
It DOES mean you are not allowed to swear with it - I don't mean "Oh God, you are crap in bed" I mean "I swear by God that I have been faithful". That kind of swearing.
You are not allowed to make an oath on God or anything religious and then break it. That would be taking it 'in vain'.
So, you, me and even the lovely John Sentamu can drop a can of beans on our foot and say "Jesus, that HURT". Perfectly acceptable (and understandable).
No expletives of any kind are appropriate in religious buildings though.
And, BIoke, if you are referring to a delicious combination of meat, spice and rich gravy then I am happy to call you a Faggot any day. biggrin
