I have often wondered why that is so as well....
They have lots of children because the mortality rate is very low and to be sure some survive and carry on the name/family line etc (I suppose)....
But then they enter the vicious circle.....
Not enough food to feed them all but enough family members that some will survive....
Its not an easy cycle to break and education is a big help I reckon as well as food....
