Fees/Costs/Paying for Parties?

Im confused.
I understand that SH is firmly committed to a NO FEES attitude towards swining.
There is a thread in 'Lets Meet Up' started by a chap who was prepared to do all the leg work of arranging a venue but stated that costs would have to be shared.
This thread was locked until he confirmed that there would be no fees.
There is another thread in 'Lets Meet Up' about arranging a 'Munch' in the Portsmouth area. Fees and cost sharing is being openly discussed but in this case the thread has actually been 'stickied'.
Is there something I'm missing here...???
The threads are very similar to if you yourself book a room in the local club. You have to often agree to pay a deposit for the hire of the room. This guarantees the owner some return for the hire of the place if it all goes tits up and his loses a sure winner from someone else. Sometimes the room can be free and a buffet is supplied. The fee is to help the originator to recoup his loss, it would not be fair or proper for the originator to loose say £100 for nothing and THEN supply food? In effect you are likey to just be paying an extra couple of quid on the buffet...NO PROFITS to keep the meet alive and to make the person who set it up not out of pocket...
HOWEVER...
There are some who basically scam and work bad deeds by fixing a pay in advance fe, and they can be no showers or prostitutes or other such parties? Sometimes you get single girls parties where the pimp sets up the meet for a 330 entry fee...need I say more?
Most of the ones on here are genuine and IF you have any worries then ask one of the mods to verify the authenticity of the poster?
Hope this helps?
Rocky
Thanks for the reply Rocky however that wasnt what I was asking.
I was hoping to get some clarification over what appears to be a case of dual-standards.
One thread is locked (albeit temporarily) if cost sharing is mentioned yet another is 'Stickied'.
That was what I didnt understand.
However I would be very inclined to agrre with you - Im quite sure that this scene is rife with scammers, as with any scene that is even slightly 'underground'.
Thanks Mark, that helps smile . I spotted it last night too. It may be a little confusing for new members when they see verified members mention a small charge for overheads, but it`s well worth mentioning why the caution. :)

I would imagine that this person is an unknown quantity. Or nobody can vouch for him/her.

And this person is a regular, or some of the regulars know him/her well.
TBH I don't really see double standards, I see the moderators trying to protect people from being ripped off (as Mark said above.).
Thanks Mark
That makes sense.
Confusion dealt with!!
Cheers :-)
Hi Easy
Whilst you dont see any double standards I'm sure you could understand how it might look.
Anyone asking for more than a nominal contribution to costs is in it for gain. Avoid.
NB for those thinking of charging even only cost-share money for party entrance at home, if anyone falls down the stairs and sues, your house insurance will not cover the bills. Beware. Be a shame to go bankrupt for the sake of a few quid.
The Kent Host.
What costs would you incur if you were having at your house though?
Surely that would be an indication that the ppl were doing it for profit.
If it was a venue that had been hired then it would seem all the more reasonable to pay a nominal entrance fee to share cost.

Yeah I culd understand how it could look to someone who wasn't a regular here, but the mods do a sterling job on this site and if they've closed or suspended a thread there's usually a pretty good reason for it.
Sorry if the reply above is a bit "short", but it was written on a Monday morning before my mid-morning cookie. Never a good time to talk to me. lol
Lol
I'll bear that in mind.... or bare that in mind.......!! :-)
