Do you go to the cinema often? I guess with most people having satellite tv these days, the need to go out to see movies is less.
What was the last film you saw? Got a review?
I went to see the Badaar Meinhoff Complex the other week with a friend ( we're both into the arthouse/off the wall kind of films rolleyes ) As a teenager at the time, I vaguely remember seeing bits of their attacks in the news and of course the 1972 Olympics so I was interested to know more about it.
On the down side it was hard going - more like a documentary than a movie and not what you would call 'light entertainment' plus over 2 hours long
On the plus side, it was informative and interesting to get to understand more now I'm a bit older. It also didn't bias towards either the terrorists or the authorities plus it was great to see all those fab old Mercedes biggrin
Next week we're going to see Che after watching the Motorcycle Diaries on dvd :D
Got any recomendations?
We used to go to the cinema every week, then started having kids and babysitters were too expensive for such frivolity. Now the oldest is of an age where he can babysit for nothing, we are just beginning to consider it an option again. However, now we are older, more tired in the evenings, and embroiled in SH, we feel less inclined to go out and tend to stay in on our pc's with a nice glass of wine.
I am determined to make it a priority to go out maybe once a month though. I spend the whole day here Mon - Fri and most of the weekends and I'm going stir-crazy. Any recommendations for what to go and see will be greatly appreciated.
There are 7 of us in a local film club. We meet once a fortnight at one of the members houses who has a home cinema in an outhouse at the bottom of the garden. We take it in turns to bring 3 films and then vote on which one we are going to see. This of course is usually followed by an extended discussion of the film in the local lol. Once a year we have a vote on which was the best film of the year and send the director a replica Oscar as a prize. Last year Shane Meadows's Dead Mans Shoes won, brilliant film!
I am with you Sassy I love arthouse/off the wall movies, amoungst the best we have seen are Amelie, Ne le dis à personne and Welcome to Dongmakgol. I also really like 30's 40's & 50's English Black and White films, Way to the Stars and Hell Drivers being two very good examples, while for sheer exhilarating stupidity, Sir Henry at Rawlinsons End would take some beating.
Phew, script over.

Amelie is one of my faves. I love foreign films and have no trouble with subtitles. Not sure you can get it over here ( was brought over from Sweden for me ) but a film called 'Sa som i Himmelen' is lovely.
There's one on Sky at the moment called 'Paris Je T'aime' a collection of 12 short love stories all based in Paris. Excellent!
Another one on Sky which is a must to watch is Into The Wild. Based on a true story and produced by Sean Penn it tells the story of a boy who leaves his family, friends, money and all the trappings of modern life to hitch his way to Alaska. Stunning film
Wall E
:giggle:
Last none kid film was probably Wimbledon (early 2005 ish redface )
Rather watch them free from an online site before they hit the cinema

well... a fewtimes more recently...I used to go a lot back in the nineties.
as part of a group from work in and around the west end.
"Jimbo and the Jet Set" nights, they were called, there's a story there...but errrm...
They were 'art-house'/'stupid' film nights...
some wonderfull films taken in... and the ultimate of course from director of LotR;

we were a classy bunch!
Wildfire's Cine-Club sounds brilliant.
A regular film-goers Social might be fun

I saw that one :gagged:
Another 'strange and different film lover' here wave
I recently bought Daywatch and Nightwatch, a two part Russian vampire/werewolf thriller, certainly worth a look. I also got Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, only watched the first one so far but it is pretty good.
I've got a cupboard full of foreign films waiting to be watched, or watched again and can also recommend Doberman (german heist film), La Haine (not exactly jolly but very good) and City of God (another film that doesn't exactly have the disney factor iynwim).
I'll have to have another nose round the cupboard when i have some spare time and come up with a few more suggestions wink
ooo yes! daywatch/Nightwatch! Brilliant.
I first saw part of Nightwatch on the tele... subtitled, but even the subtitles themselves were treated in a really creative manner.. very much becoming a part of the presentation rather than a simple aid to the non russian watcher (see what I did there?..watcher? nemmind)
anyhow, went and got myself the dvd's, and was a little disapointed, the subtitles were standard... all the same though, brilliant films

How long before they get 'The Hollywood Treatment'? rolleyes
All to soon I should think Meaty... same as films such as the Japanese 'Ring' and 'Grudge' films..Pah!
no ring comments please

I only tend to get to the flicks for kids films.... £1 a head on Saturday morning. When my daughter gets too old I'll have to borrow someone else's kid!
It was Film Night last night, we were treated to Kite Runner, which although only half of the cast is Afghan and the Director (Marc Foster) German/Swiss it has such an Afghan flavour I am inclined to call it an Afghani film. It is brilliant, worth getting out on DVD, or buying even (I shall be). Highly recommended.
Madagascar 2 - Although the film contained many original points of reference for adults, methinks they have exhausted the concept.....I'm just a big kid biggrin
Just got back from a late night showing of The Wrestler. Top film! Mickey Rourke is excellent as a washed up wrestler struggling with health issues, love and his on-off relationship with his daughter.
Can see why he's been nominated for an Oscar for the role and he deserves it. Heart rendering in places
Thumbs up
i havent been to the cinema for years, main reason is hubby hates them, we have never been to see a film together at the flicks and doubt we ever will, and dont fancy being a "billy no mates" and going on my own lol
oh!

OMG......one of the quirkiest films I've ever seen but still very enjoyable.
I went to see Che Part 1 last night. Top film. Benecio Del Toro is perfect for the role. Can't wait for the second part :bounce:
Anyone going to see this I recommend watching The Motorcycle Diaries first.

I know people love it or were disappointed but I thought Slumdog Millionaire was fantastic! loved The Wrestler..... benjamin button reminded me of forest gump, milk was cool... and don't go and see revolutionary road, it was really bland!!!! lol

I saw it at the local Arts Centre. I prefer going there than the big cinemas but it was only on for 5 days. Think it may be a bit too 'arty' for the big cinemas which is a shame.
Keep an eye out for the smaller arts centres and independent places. They tend to show much more interesting stuff biggrin
ty hun i will look for similar places locally
part two is released feb 20th btw

We have Far north on DVD (the pleasures of Dek going to foreign places) It is a brilliant very moving film, would recommend it,
