i must have heard of five people today/tonight from different areas of the country mention they had the flu and couldnt therefore work today.....
at first i thought that people had just been having heavy weekends......... but i know i had a thursday to sunday night session with not much sleep and feel fine..... and believe me i was hammered the whole time i was awake.....give or take the odd hour.
is there some sort of outbreak or something?
do i just associate with "wreck-heads"
have i got unusually high tolerance levels?
is there a trend to use flu as an excuse to work? ie skive......
Me, Shaz and our lad have got flu here to.....
We both still go work though sad

My friend as was signed off last week with the flu, and now just got a chest infection, she said she never really knew what flu was like until now, she couldnt even get out the bed and as been really weak. She said she always thought flu, like most of us, was a bit of a cold few aches and pains, but now she knows different.
I do think alot of people do use it as an excuse after a heavey weekend tho, I have done it myself a few times biggrin

A very good friend of mine who runs a massive refrigeration warehouse has been asked by the Government for storage space to store massive quantities of flu vaccine.
So can expect a good outbreak this year. All due to the fact that our winters aren't cold enough!!
Well I can honestly say there are at least 12 people who can vouch for how rough I felt/looked/sounded on sunday morning and it was nothing to do with drinking. I was the first one to hit the tent on Saturday night ( yes, it was STILL saturday redface ) as I felt so bad.
Sassy looks around for the bbq peeps to back her up surprisedops:

Nah, it doesn't mean to expect a good outbreak. A flu vaccine is offered routinely to the elderly, asthmatics and health workers (don't want the NHS staff catching it and being unable to nurse the other flu patients). Last year there was a very good uptake which led to severe vaccine shortages for key workers - probably due to the media reporting of H5N1. Hopefully it will mean that we don't see the same shortage this year.

Isn't influencer a life threatening illness?? And a heavy cold just something that leaves you feeling really rough. I'm not a doctor perhaps someone can clarify

Welcome to the Cafe
You're right Keeno. Whereas a cold can make you feel like poo, the flu is a bit more severe and can cause complications for people such as asthmatics, diabetics, people with chronic chest problems and those with low immunity, ie HIV, chemotherapy patients etc, hence the need for vaccinations for patients and healthcare workers. Alcohol hand gel and anti-bac wipes are a good way to prevent it spreading though the family.
The best treatment for a cold is plenty of rest, fluids and paracetomol to reduce any temperature. Decongestants are a bonus to relieve sinus problems ( bleeding Godsend more like ! ) and cough medicine such as Covonia if your cough is chesty.
The flu will make you feel more achy, your temperature could be high, and the recovery is usually a little longer. You only need to consult your GP if you have a condition that would make you more vunerable to complications ( as above ) develop a chest or other infection that requires antibiotics, severe symptoms or difficulty breathing.

Will people stop sneezing on me and spreading their germs? :scared:
Seriously though.... get well soon to anyone that's feeling under the weather, for whatever reason. (Just don't make me ill!)
:rose:
I have a cold. Not Flu, I've only ever had flu 3 times and believe me I know the difference. But when I get colds they go straight to my sinus(es, i.....?) and no matter how many decongestants I take it stays there. My ears hurt, my cheeks hurt, my eyes hurt, my teeth ache, my neck aches, I feel dizzy (yes more than normal) and I'm so tired because I can't sleep. Poor me. But it culd be worse, I could have MAN FLU.......

True - and I'm sure the current flu wave is due to the unseasonably mild weather right through September..

Could be man flu....... I've had 'chicken' pox
Certainly a load of people I know (me included) have had a pretty bad cold over the last couple of weeks.

With the greatest of respect if you have the flu you don't go into work unless you work for yourself, I had that bastard flu at the begining of the year, (yep missed my flu jab) as i thought i was too busy to stop for 5 minutes, i was laid up for over 2 weeks, and washed out big time for 3 months after, i am asthmatic and was told that had it hit my chest instead of my sinuses then I'd have been hostpitalised.
Memo to self. FLU JAB!!
