Good luck dude,
done that a few times and ended up not on web for a fortnight lol
See Ya
NO! STEVE! WAIT ! You've pressed the wrong button!
AIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeee...
Only format, real men use Fdisk...
Sticks out chest so light glints off anorak zipper ;)
If you were feeling a bit more adventerous you could always do
format c: /u
warning:
For those of you who don't know what "format c:" or "fdisk" is DON'T do it. To give you some idea of what they do, fdisk is sometimes refered to as F*ck the Disk.
Damn, man with better anorak ;)
Assume it all like 2k now hiding in the install gui... no bring back my command line...
EDIT: nah far more fun format c: /u /y /q
Now that's plain nasty
Yup that me, quick translation for any non anoraks out there (been a while so I could be wrong)
/u - unconditional (So you cant go back)
/q - Quick (Dont check it, just do it)
/y - Same as typing Y to the 'Are you sure message' so it should just go and wipe your disc
If I remember correctly the /y was taken out as people were abusing it...
You have to do something like format c: /u /q << echo y
But I'll go off and read my DOS manual and check the exact syntax.
ensure u have sound drivers installed (should be on motherboard or sound card disk)
Steve,
With Windows ME you need an older boot up disk like 98 or 95. Boot from that and FDISK the HDD, then you can do a clean re-install.
If you go into BIOS and change the boot order to the CD drive first, plonk in the XP CD then follow the on screen instructions, you can reformat and install from there.
its been a while , but JQL cant u also insert XP CD , set pc to boot to CDrom , and format HDD with XP ? ... pretty sure thats how i last did it
Ah but if you boot from the XP CD and use the XP partition manager you are usually left with a choice of Boot partitions when starting the PC.
(yes I do know how to get rid of them, but most XP users won't).
FDISK does a better job IMHO
Well done on the Sound Steve.
