I was going to say that if you gave us more details, we could make more relevant comments. But then, if they haven't taken offence at your post, you might either have been less obvious than you thought, or they just aren't bothered.

We all deal with things differently and if I found/saw something that may either offend others or myself. I would either pm the person/and or a moderator and let it be dealt with that way.
For me, its nothing to do with being confrontational, just seems easier and quicker that way, plus it gets looked at from the AUP point of view.
I did see the sig in question and felt it could be taken the wrong way, ok probably no doubt about it. I failed to do something about it at the time..got sidetracked with something else. confused
