Did anyone else watch Animal Farm tonight....
The programme started with traditional animal breeding programmes and artificial selection for the creation of that perfect lean piece of meat and a poor little bird with no feathers (saves on plucking eh?) confused
GM food - giant salmon that could help dwindling fish stocks, rice modified to contain vitamin A that could save lives. Cloning whole herds of cows (been done it seems), meat grown from animal stem cells - we could do away with animals those who dont eat meat for ethical reasons may suit them.. ...
Im all for saving lives and research - yet, I dont feel comfortable with cloning - scares me that it could go to far. No way will I touch food made from stem cells - just the thought of it - GM food - I feel ok with parts but not all.. :? :?
Whats the saying *we are what we eat*
Would you eat cloned meat? GM Food? Or a burger grown from stem cells?
Are we right to mess with nature?
xanaisx
where do you think thes new viruses and stuff come from, frightens the shit out of me but we still buy it.
It's true, we've been inundated with scares over the years, starting back as far as I can remember to the Edwina Curry egg scare! but the thing is, we're all still fit and healthy?
I sometimes wonder if we get poorly on being scared witless with all these findings!
I'm not completely comfortable with this, but if it was done correctly and adequate rules put in place then it could help a lot of hungry people, but if we move to far away from real food whats next, Soylent Green dunno

Stangely enough Steve, Soylent Green popped into my my head whilst watching it!! confused
I'd have to agree with flower411, I've not suffered the skin problems but from a taste point of view, I'd have to say that French meat always tastes better, its not just the French either, in many other Countries the meat does taste better and you can't help but wonder what sort of crap we are being sold.
Pretty much like the global warming fiasco then.
I am so beginning to hate this country mad actually maybe this ought to be in the steamroom.
I'm fed up with incompetence, lethargy, scares about this that and the other and a constant feeling of being ripped off at every turn. It makes me want to leave and start all over again.....but where dunno
my mother suffered from all sorts alleries but moved to spain 3yrs ago and guess what nothing, i wanted to move out there but it nevr happened.

My parents live in deepest darkest SW France and i have found and so have they that most of the fresh meat they buy is from local producers and sellers. Other than meats not traditionally popular in the U.K. Beef, pork and Lamb is of a definately inferior flavour than the equivalent produced meats here in Blighty.
As for Horse, Goat and wild boar these are singularily uninspiring and only improve with how the dish is prepared. Granted the duck is damned good though.
Would never wanted to hear me say this though "I ain't keen on the U.K. nowadays either" Think somewhere this country missed the happy boat - shame because we are collectively the finest mixed bunch of people about i reckon. Just not happy enough.
The country needs to take a chill pill

I can understand this, I suffer from all year round rinitis.. basically I sneeze and splutter my way around everything in life! I am allergic to all kinds of things but as soon as I board that plane each year I'm abs. fine and have a fortnight sneezing free fun! lol
I'm also with Fire, and we are actually at the point of considering a full on move once the kids are older.

I bet you are a brill Dad, it shows. If ours had of been younger we would've moved with them. A friend of mine moved out there with her daughter when she was 5, this child can now speak two languages fluently (sometimes winding her mam up with it!), she is a picture of health and has the benefit of two different cultures. There is little crime and she is happy.
You've probably heard of the bee problem in the US and europe (including the UK) - when entire hives are dying off inexplicably all over the countryside in large numbers.
Some research done by German scientists reckon that one of the main problems is pollen from GM crops which affect the natural bacteria in the bees stomachs - which effectively kills them.
One third of the crops grown in the first world countries rely on bees for pollination for them to produce seeds... No bees and...
