Mark works very very hard to keep this site a free one and I doubt very much if he will ever change his mind....
Regardless of whether there is a registration fee or not you will always get the TTTT's (tm Jags)
As to the "control of SH not being adequate" I think you will find that no matter what "control's" you attempt to introduce things will not change.... This site has brilliant Mods who work tirelessly to ensure that the AUP is adhered to, and I doubt that you would be able to suggest additional "controls" that would change the way the site runs....

well, considering the number of fakes you get in sites that already charge (and charge a substantial monthly amount) i dont think charging would change anything really - may cause a small number of the numptys from bothering though....

Mark decides site policy and he will NEVER charge. So whilst your poll is interesting, the subject is academic because it won't happen.
I don't want to dampen the debate, just be aware that this site won't charge.
Of course, those who feel the site isn't favourable to their needs or situation are totally free to move to another site (no, not a dig at you ) if they wish. As a caveman once said 'you're free to join and free to leave'.

Site's the best around and it's free. Better than the pay sites. Who says having to pay is going to reduce the number of tossers. Keep it as it is.

Thought I'd add my comments!
This site is great.... not just the swinging side but all of it. These are the best bunch of people I've ever come accross. I don't think charging to be a member is a very good idea..... it won't stop the annoying people etc etc.
If you don't like how the site is, then you are free to go to another.
Obviously not everyone will agree what is worthwhile to read and respond to and what isn't - we are all different. Some say the site is going downhill some say it's the best it's ever been - just shows that not everyone can be pleased all of the time.
I'm not trying to diss your suggestion - just thought adding my thoughts!

de sade, as jags says, it's a purely academic exercise, cos mark has always been quite clear it will never happen.
but . . . charging means nothing as far as content and "quality" of the membership goes. of the pay sites i've looked at, they seem equally susceptible to the problems you've brought up, and also have a few more of their own . . . such as made up profiles and other bits of trickery to give the impression you're getting your money's worth.
the great thing about SH is that it IS free, and serves as a great introduction to swinging for the curious and the toe-dippers, who probably wouldn't pay to register on a pay site purely to satisfy their curiousity anyways. i know i would never have joined SH if i'd had to pay to do so, and i'd have missed a hell of a lot. i suspect the same goes for lots of other members.

That's a good idea, but I think I'd make it a bit longer.
I had to think hard on how to reply to this one – walked away for a bit – thought about it some more and then came back to the keyboard.
A few options of reply that wizz’d through my head included…..

Lots of people enjoy this site without ever coming on the forum – so we are unlikely to know all of the active members.
As for the tossers… they come - they go. If they had paid they might stick around to get their money’s worth.
* How many of the current members (non-tosser types) would be here if it was not free?
* Yes – this is a person not willing to stand up and express how they feel?
* If the fear is the ‘regulars’ would be against it – who is the suggestion to benefit?
In the end I came up with this answer…..
Whilst being a free site does mean anyone can come and look – it also means genuinely curious people, both couples and singles, can explore a tiny part of the world of swinging without feeling that they are committing to something they are not sure about. They can come and go at a pace to suit their needs. They can find information on clubs and parties, they can use the photo ads, arrange their first meet through PM’s, they might even dare to come and join the nutters in the forum.
Becoming a pay-site would hinder and put off as many genuine people (if not more) than the total number of tossers that actually cause a problem on the forum.

The members make this website. Start charging and there is no doubt some of us would simply disappear. Some of us simply do not want to be sing credit cards, bank acounts, and whatnot, some know they cannot be trusted with access to money thy avent actualy got.
I personaly believe this is a great website, keep it as it is. Also one has to worry about he motives of those suggesting such measures. Are they webmasters who hate the compettion? Lets face it, who ould pay to join a swingers site when they can let it l hang out for nothing?

I am a chat op on a different site which is a pay for site.... (which i now rarely go to) and guess what .. we still get the idiots the trolls and whatever else inbetween, as jags has said ... once people pay .. they think it gives them the right to be rude, abusive and offensive.
I found this site well. ... what i was looking for doesn't matter.. but it has become my respite from the crap i got in the other place. the people that are genuine and respectable far outweigh the idiots...... oh and pay-for-sites really do draw in the sleaziest of people.. ....IMO
Like any site.. this place has its glitches... but personally i think it is a very small minority who try to spoil it ... and for the rest of us it is a fantastic place to meet people and socialise and have fun.

Many people come to a site like this for there own personal reasons, they may not be active swingers, or may never want to be, people get out of it what they put into it, some of the "regulars" might think it's an exclusive club, and get bored with the "newbies" aparantley regurjitating old threads, the old search button answer, but it's not an exclusive club, and any of the 21,000 odd members can have their say at anytime on any thread as long as it sticks to the rules. The site content is regulated by the mods, who from time to time dont allways get it right, but do a sterling job ime sure we all agree!
As for paying, yes i would because i enjoy the site when i can get on it, but that is me and not everyone else, a time restriction would also work,but i would be frightened of being deleted as i cant allways get on as much as ide like too.
I dont know i doont want to step on anayones toes, after all ime a relative newby
