In an effort to gloss over today's, errrr, posting storms. I thought, what can I post about that hasn't been posted about yet? Isn't contentious, isn't frivolous but may be interesting to some... I know! Freesat.
Okay so who hasn't heard about it or of it, and who's subscribed to Sky HD and is gonna be pissed by its existence?
And just as importantly, who's going to take advantage of it?
mr b mentioned it yesterday oddly enough but don't much about it lookin forward to finding out more if any1 wishes to share info biggrin
Is that one of those 'special' sat boxes you buy from the pub that can receive all sorts of channels for about £50 aand a pint of Carling? wink
Don't you still need a digi box at £100? Hardly free.
I have Sky basic - but may drop part of the package when son leaves home.

It's free as in no subscriptions for the main channels (reputed to be 100+).
The digiboxes will be expensive when they first come out, but just like Freeview will come down when there is more demand.
There's also an installation fee for fitting the dish if you don't already have one. Argos say theirs is £80, but you will most likely get a local aerial dealer to do it cheaper.
If you already have Sky the dish you have will do the trick though you may need to buy a 4 or 8 way LNB for it depending on the number of boxes you need. They are peanuts at the mo' you can get them on ebay for about a tenner, and they take 5 mins to fit.
The real plus point though, especially for those with HD plasmas and LCD TVs is that the BBC (and later ITV) will be airing HiDef material. For example the Olympics was aired in full 1080p on Freesat.
I'm only interested in the techy side of things TBH as I don;'t watch TV, but anything that does SKY out of a subscription is fine by me

i could swap that pint for my sat box which cost me £500 in 04'no subscription, got over 2000 channels and 5 hardcore porn from 11pm everynight
ok i refer the honourable gentleman to the comment i made earlier on a previous post
"i'm just a ditzy blonde dunno "
any chance of lay woman terms rotflmao
I have a sky digibox and dish which I use without paying subscription. At the moment I'm using my excisting card which allows me to view BBC, channel 4, five and a few others. When that runs out I'll buy a new card and get a few more channels, I don't watch much TV and I really can't see the point of paying for it - my TV licence is pricey enough. Freesat has been available for quite a while, they just don't like to tell people about it because I'm sure more people would stop paying rediculous amounts of money per month.

For all the "ditzy blondes" out there, another place to go is
For comparisons, FAQs and reviews.
Incidentally, I have nothing to do with the website or Freesat in general.... just a geek for anything you can put a plug on biggrin

I work in the electrical industry and most of my work colleagues have "dodgey sat boxes" costing £80-£100
they are that advanced now that they even unscramble the signals themselves when they are changed and they also get all sky channels including movies/sports/pay per view and continent porn channels
