as it will be that time of year- feb 14th chocs and flowers - (dont forget guys)
i was told that flowers keep longer if they are put in a vase with water and either ===
an asprin
lemonade
weak solution of bleach (keeps the water clear too)
ok dont cut and paste in a vase with wateras i know that lol
my question is have you any other methods to keep them longer (alive not pressed)
i use a mixture of water and soda water/cheap lemonade or any sparkling mineral water would do the same
Always use around 1 litre of luke warm water and mix in a tsp of sugar and half a tsp of bleach! Change the water every other day (top up inbetween) and the flowers should last for ages (even longer than they would with the food you normally get with them)
if u flattent the end of the stalks gently then add sugar in the water this helps the life span of a vase of flowers by about a week xx
Dissolve an aspirin in the water.
:P
Always nip the ends off before you vase them. Use tepid water not cold and a drop of lemonade.
It's important to change the water at least every other day, if not more, as stale flower water can grow a bacteria known as pseudamonus. This is the main reason why some hospitals won't allow flowers on the wards.
When vasing gerbera or tulips, pierce the stem under the head with a pin...stops the droop ( please do NOT try this with your man! :scared: )
Spray them well with buckets and buckets of hairspray! :rascal:
You can't smell them anymore but they last for weeks! :giggle:

cut the stems at a angle, remove any leaves that will be in the water, use fresh water and change this every couple of days, use a cean vase.
with roses if possible.. again as above but put the stems in a bucket of water up to the head of the rose for a hour or two before placing in the display vase.
with lillys, remove the part that holds the pollen as if it goes on furniture or clothing it will stain.

plant food normally works well
Every few days, take them out and trim the soggy ends off. This is especially useful for hard-stemmed things like roses. And pick your flowers carefully, buy bunches where the flowers are just opening. Full-blown blooms look great but last about 3 days.
