Seems Lissa (and Ian-Jane) are right after a quick google. Well that's learned me something....
Kismet Hardy were his famous last words but they werent the absolute last thing he said. The admiral was hot, thirsty and losing blood, he was desperate and uttered the words * Drink, drink, fan, fan, rub, rub* before he passed on. Kismet hardy is often associated with hislast moments because it sounds glamourous or heroic, its sad to think that one of the great heroes of our country passed into madness (why he said those words) albeit for only a brief minute or so before he died.
He said *thank god i ahve done my duty just befoe his last words*
Staying with maritime ways here, Next question.
What killed most sailors in 18th century sea battles?
Blue Whales spitting melon seeds at them

(as is your Reindeer claim - tried to avoid googling up till now, but wanted to verify).
According to most online sources, the dog predates the reindeer in terms of domestication.
I have a question for you..what is the oldest European language still spoken today?
(hope I'm right...)

That sounds like a good corporate war game idea, sod paintballing....one side fires dodos outta a cannon and the other fires melons out of blue whales....id play that

Of course the reindeer and the nelson answers are debatable, noone is ever going to know for sure. as for your european language im gonna hazard a guess and say welsh, although im not at all sure

Hmmm, indeed. I must say that I didn't think 'kismet' was in use as early as 1805 (though I wasn't sure when it DID come into use, until I googled just now). Certainly the biographies of Nelson that I have read would all put "Thank God I have done my duty" as his last words. These were uttered when news reached him that the battle was won. Asking Hardy to kiss him would not have been an unusual thing for a man to do at that time and would not have been seen as a sexual act in any way.
Thanks, Ian and Jane

PS I am a huge fan of Stephen Fry, but I am sure that he is not infallible. I refer you back to your own comment that no-one is ever going to know for sure - and that includes Mr Fry.
